Volunteer Corps amalgamated.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve of the amalgamation of the Sydenham Rifle Volunteers and the Canterbury Irish Rifle Volunteers Corps, with the seniority of the first-mentioned corps, and under the designation of the “A Company, Canterbury Rifle Volunteers.” Date of amalgamation, 1st June, 1892.

The following gentlemen will therefore become officers in the A Company, Canterbury Rifle Volunteers, with their present seniority, viz.:—

Captain: GEORGE FREDERICK WHITESIDE (late Captain, Canterbury Irish Rifle Volunteers). Date of commission, 6th May, 1889.

Lieutenant: ARTHUR TOSTYN DRAYTON (late Lieutenant, Canterbury Irish Rifle Volunteers). Date of commission, 9th April, 1890.

Honorary Surgeon: CHARLES MORTON ANDERSON (late Honorary Surgeon, Sydenham Rifle Volunteers). Date of commission, 15th June, 1883.

Honorary Chaplain: The Rev. HENRY BROMLEY COCKS (late Honorary Chaplain, Sydenham Rifle Volunteers). Date of commission, 26th January, 1885.

The commission held by Ernest Rhind Anderson as Captain of the Sydenham Rifle Volunteers lapsed on the amalgamation of the above-mentioned corps.

Arrangements for First Elections, &c., Borough of Pahiatua, County of Pahiatua.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint

FREDERICK TAYLOR REDMAN

to be Town Clerk of the Borough of Pahiatua, as constituted under “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” and also Returning Officer for the purpose of conducting the first election of Mayor and Councillors of the said borough; also to fix that the number of Councillors for the said borough shall be nine; also to appoint Friday, the 2nd day of September, 1892, to be the day for holding the said first election of Mayor, and Thursday, the 8th day of September, 1892, to be the day for holding the first election of nine Councillors; also to appoint Monday, the 12th day of September, 1892, at 2 p.m., to be the time, and the Town Board Office, Pahiatua, to be the place, at which the first meeting of the Borough Council of Pahiatua shall be held.

Bonus for the Manufacture of Pig-iron from Ironsand or Iron-ore.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £1 per ton will be paid on the production of the first 500 tons of pig-iron of marketable quality manufactured in the colony after this date from magnetic or titaniferous ironsand or iron-ore, all material, fuel, and fluxes being the produce of New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:—

  1. The bonus must be claimed before the 31st March, 1893.

  2. The bonus will be payable in instalments of £50 as each lot of 50 tons of iron is manufactured, on the certificate of an officer appointed by the Minister of Mines that the iron is of good marketable quality.

  3. In the event of more than one person manufacturing the required quality of pig-iron before the date named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided; but in no case shall the total amount of money paid by way of bonus exceed £500.

  4. The iron in respect of which any bonus is claimed and the ironsand or ore from which it is manufactured will be examined by the officer aforesaid, who may require proof that not only the ore, but that the lime, coal, and any other material used in the manufacture, is of genuine New Zealand production, and that sales of pig-iron have been made at fair market prices.

Wellington, 24th February, 1892.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £1 per ton will be paid on the production of the first 500 tons of salt, exclusively either by evaporation of salt-water or from rock mined in the colony, on the following conditions, that is to say:—

  1. The bonus must be claimed before the 31st March, 1893.

  2. Not more than £250 will be paid for salt manufactured in the North Island, and not more than £250 for salt manufactured in the South Island.

  3. The bonus will be payable in instalments of £50 as each lot of 50 tons of salt is manufactured, on the certificate of an officer appointed by the Minister of Mines that the salt is of good marketable quality.

  4. In the event of more than one person manufacturing the stated quantity of salt in the North or South Islands respectively before the 31st March, 1893, inquiry will be
