Boundaries of District Court District of Otago Goldfields altered.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The District Courts Act, 1858,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor from time to time, as he shall think fit, by Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette, to constitute throughout the colony, or in any part thereof, districts within which District Courts shall be respectively held, and such districts to abolish, and the boundaries thereof to define or alter:

And whereas by a Proclamation bearing date the eighth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-four, a district was defined within which a District Court should be held under the said Act, and it was thereby declared that the said Court should be designated by the name of “The District Court of Otago Goldfields:”

And whereas by Proclamations bearing date the tenth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five, and the twenty-third day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight, and the eighteenth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight, and the twenty-seventh day of June, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight, and the twenty-eighth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two, the boundaries of the said district so defined were altered:

And whereas it is expedient to further alter the boundaries of the said district so defined and altered as aforesaid:

Now, therefore, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after the first day of September next, the boundaries of the district within which the District Court of Otago Goldfields shall be held shall be altered, and that thenceforth the boundaries thereof shall be the boundaries hereinafter described.

OTAGO GOLDFIELDS DISTRICT COURT DISTRICT.

All that area in the Land District of Otago bounded towards the north by a right line from the mouth of the Awarua River, on the West Coast, to Mount Aspiring; thence by a right line drawn in the direction of the outflow of the Ohau River from Ohau Lake as far as the summit of the range between the Dingle River and the Ahuriri River; thence towards the north-east generally by the summit of the watershed over Longslip Hill to Lindis Pass; thence by the summit of the leading range to Mount St. Bathan’s; thence by a line due east to the summit of the Hawkdun Mountains; thence by right lines from peak to peak along the summit of the said mountains to a point due west of Little Domett Peak; and thence by a right line to the summit of the said Little Domett Peak; thence by a right line to the summit of Kyeburn Hill; thence by right lines from peak to peak along the summit of the Kakanui Mountains and of the spur leading to the confluence of the Deepdell Creek with the Waihemo or Shag River; thence by a right line to that confluence; thence by the watershed between the Taieri and Waikouaiti Rivers to Silver Peak; thence towards the south-east generally by a right line to the source of the Silver Stream; and thence by the said Silver Stream to the West Taieri Road; thence by that road to the boundary of the Hundreds, and by the said boundary of Hundreds to the east branch of the Tokomairiro River; thence by that river to the Main South Road; thence by the said Main South Road to Lovell’s Creek; thence towards the south-west generally by Lovell’s Creek and its western branch to its source; thence by a right line to Trig. Station U, Mount Stuart; thence by Section No. 3, Block IX., Hillend Survey District; and thence by Bruce County to Crookburn; thence by the said Crookburn to its confluence with the Clutha River; thence by a right line to a point due west of the western bank of the Clutha River, 20 chains; thence by a line parallel to the said Clutha River to a point due east of SpyLaw Hill; thence by a right line to the summit of the said SpyLaw Hill; thence by a right line to the source of SpyLaw Burn; thence by the said SpyLaw Burn to its confluence with the Pomahaka River; thence by the said Pomahaka River to the confluence of Parasol Creek with that river; thence by the said Parasol Creek to its source; thence by a right line to the summit of Black Umbrella Mountain; thence by right lines from peak to peak along the range between the western branch of the Waikaka River and the Otama Creek to the northern boundary-line of Chatton Survey District; thence by that survey district and Otama Survey District to the Mataura River; thence by the said Mataura River to its source; thence by a right line to Eyre Peak; thence by right lines from peak to peak along the western watershed of Lake Wakatipu to a point due east of Mount Christina; thence by a right line to the summit of Mount Christina; thence by a right line to the nearest source of the Cleddau River; thence by that river and the southern shore of Milford Sound to the sea; and thence towards the north-west by the sea to the mouth of the Awarua River aforesaid, the place of commencement.
