Police Gaol at Nelson declared a Prison.

A PROCLAMATION.

COLONY OF NEW ZEALAND, }
TO WIT.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Prisons Act, 1882,” it is provided that the Governor may, by Proclamation published in the Gazette, declare any house, building, enclosure, or place to be a prison; and from and after the gazetting of any such Proclamation, or from any time later specified in the Proclamation, such house, building, enclosure, or place shall be deemed a prison:

Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby declare that the Police Gaol at Nelson, in the Provincial District of Nelson, and all enclosures used or occupied therewith, shall, from and after the publication of this Proclamation in the Gazette, be a prison within the meaning and for the purposes of “The Prisons Act, 1882.”

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, the Administrator of the Government of Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two.

Land available for Selection by the Midland Railway Company set apart for Mining Purposes.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS in the contract bearing date the third day of August, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight, made between Her Majesty the Queen and the New Zealand Midland Railway Company (Limited), it is, among other things, provided that, subject to the conditions therein contained, all lands within the limits of the authorised area defined in the said contract shall be available for selection by the company, with certain exceptions: And whereas among such exceptions are included all lands which from time to time, in the opinion of the Governor, are or may be required for bonâ fide mining purposes and the several purposes connected therewith or incidental or conducive thereto, and which lands shall from time to time be set apart and defined by Proclamation to be issued in that behalf; but no more than ten thousand acres shall be so set apart or proclaimed in one block at any one time, and the lands so set apart and proclaimed from time to time shall not, in the aggregate, exceed seven hundred and fifty thousand acres: And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor, the lands described in the Schedule hereto are required for bonâ fide mining purposes and the several purposes connected therewith, and the said lands are comprised in one block, containing ten thousand acres: And whereas it is expedient the said land should be set apart and defined by this Proclamation:

Now, therefore, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of all powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf under the hereinbefore-mentioned contract or otherwise, do hereby proclaim and declare that the block of land defined and described in the Schedule hereto is set apart under the provisions of the said contract for bonâ fide mining purposes and the several purposes connected therewith.

SCHEDULE.

Block LXII.: All that area in the Land District of Nelson, situated in the Mawheraiti and Waitahu Survey Districts, containing by admeasurement 10,000 acres, more or less. Bounded by a line commencing at the north-eastern corner of the Mawheraiti Survey District, and proceeding along a straight line to Trig. Station K, Waitahu Survey District; thence along a line to Trig. Station T, Waitahu Survey District; thence along a line to a point on Big River due north of the north-eastern corner of Section No. 5, Block VIII., Mawheraiti Survey District; thence along the northern bank of Big River to the north-eastern corner of Section No. 2, Block VIII., and along the northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 2, Block VIII., and 6, 27, and 26, Block VII., to the north-western corner of the last-mentioned section; thence along the eastern and northern boundaries of Section No. 25 to the south-eastern boundary of Section No. 16, Block VII.; thence along the south-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 16, 20, 22, and 24, Block VII., and the north-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 24 and 7, Block VII., to the bank of the Little Grey River; thence along the eastern bank of the said river to Slab Hut Creek; thence along the southern bank of that creek to Section No. 5, Square 126, Block IV., Mawheraiti Survey District, and along the western, southern, and eastern boundaries of the said section to the intersection of the last-mentioned boundary with the northern boundary of Mawheraiti Survey District, the place of commencement: excepting from the above-described area all freehold land, leasehold land, and reserves.

ERRATA.—In the New Zealand Gazette No. 40, of the 19th May, 1892, page 723, under Road Board elections, Otaki Road District, for “George Spackman” read “Arthur Drake.” In the Schedule to the Proclamation setting apart an area of 9,000 acres for mining purposes within the boundaries of the lands available for selection by the New Zealand Midland Railway Company (Limited), published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 41, of the 26th May, 1892, page 735, in the thirtieth line, for “northern” read “southern.”
