At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-sixth

HIS EXCELLENCY THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE GOVERNMENT
IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in him by "The Auckland University College
Act, 1882," the Administrator of the Government of the
Colony of New Zealand, acting with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby
make the regulation set forth hereunder for the conduct
of the election of graduates' members of the Auckland
University College Council.
REGULATION.
- In the event of equal numbers of votes being given for
two or more candidates, the Returning Officer shall have a
casting vote.

IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in him by "The Education Act, 1877," the
Administrator of the Government, with the advice and con-
sent of the Executive Council of the colony, doth hereby
revoke all regulations heretofore made under the authority
of the said Act prescribing class-books for public schools,
and in lieu thereof doth make the regulation hereto annexed;
and with the like advice and consent doth prescribe that
this order shall take effect from the first day of June, one
thousand eight hundred and ninety-two.
REGULATION.
- SUBJECT to such restrictions as the Education Board of
any district may impose, any books described in the follow-
ing list may be used in any public school:—
Reading.—Nelson's "Royal" and "Star" Readers and
"Sequels"; Chambers's English Readers; Longman's New
Readers; "Southern Cross" Readers; Richardson's Tem-
perance Lesson Book.
Writing.—Vere Foster's, "Southern Cross," and New
Zealand Public School Copy Books.
Arithmetic.—Colenso's Shilling Arithmetic; Nelson's
Royal Series; Barnard Smith's Shilling Arithmetic; Goyen's
Complete Arithmetic for Standard III., Problems for Stan-
dard III., and Exercises in Compound Rules; "Southern
Cross" Arithmetics (Whitcombe and Tombs), Longman's
Junior School Arithmetic.
Grammar and Composition.—Allen and Cornwell's Gram-
mar for Beginners; Mason's Grammars; Douglas's Initiatory
Grammar, and Principles of English Grammar; Trotter's
English Grammar (Collins); Hall's Primary Grammar;
Chambers's Introduction to Composition; Park's Compo-
sition (Coull and Culling, Dunedin).
Geography.—Nelson's and Longman's Geographical
Readers; Petrie's First Geography, and New Zealand
Geography (Wise, Dunedin); The Zealandia Geography,
Part I. (Horsburgh, Dunedin); Bowden's First New Zealand
Geography; Hill's Geography for Standards II., III., IV.

History.—Gardiner's Outline of English History; Black-

any district, grant authority for the use in such district of

IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by "The Factories Act, 1891" (hereinafter
termed "the said Act"), it is enacted that the
Governor may from time to time divide New Zealand, or
any portion thereof, into such districts as he shall think fit,
and notice of the constitution of every such district shall be
given in the Gazette as occasion requires:
Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, the Administrator
of the Government, of the Colony of New Zealand, in pur-
suance and exercise of the power and authority conferred
upon me by the said Act, do hereby divide the portions of the
said colony enumerated in the Schedule hereto into districts
for the purposes of the said Act, the descriptions and boun-
daries whereof shall be those set forth in the Schedule here-
to; and I do hereby declare that for the purposes of the said
Act each of such districts shall be known by the name set
over the description of each such district respectively.
SCHEDULE.
WAITARA FACTORY DISTRICT.
Bounded towards the north-west and north by the sea;
towards the east by Turangi Road, North Road, and Allen
Road; towards the south generally by Tikorangi, Ngatimaru,
and Bertrand Roads to the Waitara River, by a due west line
across that river, by Huirangi Township and Te Arai Road to
