THE following special order, made by the Manganui Road Board, is published in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER passed by the Manganui Road Board, at its Meeting held for that purpose on the 28th March, 1892.

THAT, to secure the repayment of a loan of £1,200, borrowed under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of forming and graveling the Pembroke Road West, a special rate of 2½d. in the pound be struck over the Pembroke Road West Special Rating District, to be composed of the following sections: Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 38, 39, 52, 106, 107, 108, Block IV., Kau-pokonui; Sections 13, 52, 53, 64, 65, 66, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 90, 92, 94, 96, 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 118, 119, 122, 123, Block I., Ngaire Survey District: such rate to be an annually-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be payable, in two half-yearly instalments, on the 1st January and 1st July in each year.

I hereby certify that the above-mentioned special order was duly passed by the Manganui Road Board, at its meeting held on the 28th March, 1892, as required by section 75 of “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and now forward a copy of the same, as required by section 76 of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Department of Ports and Harbours, Melbourne, are published for general information.

VICTORIA.—PORTLAND BAY.

Removal of Buoys.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners dated the 7th January, 1861, it is hereby notified that the red and white barrel buoys, known as the Inner Anchorage Buoys, have been removed, and will not be replaced.

VICTORIA.—PORT PHILLIP BAY.—SORRENTO CHANNEL.

Removal of Buoy.

Referring to Notice to Mariners dated the 6th December, 1872, it is hereby notified that the white buoy in the vicinity of the Sisters has been shifted to the southern edge of the Sorrento Channel, and is now moored two cables S.S.E. ¼ E. from the former position, in a depth of 17ft. at low-water, Sorrento Jetty Light bearing W. by N. ¼ N., distant one mile.

VICTORIA.—PORT PHILLIP BAY.—SOUTH CHANNEL.

Beacons in Middle Ground required in Dredging Operations.

Notice is hereby given that three pile-beacons have been placed in the Middle Ground in the vicinity of the South Channel Pile Light, bearing respectively N. six cables N. by E. ¾ E. four cables, and N. by E. four cables distant from Pile Light.

These beacons will be maintained during the continuance of dredging operations.

VICTORIA.—PORT PHILLIP BAY.—SOUTH CHANNEL.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners dated the 19th March, 1889, it is hereby notified that dredging operations have been recommenced in the vicinity of the Pile Light, South Channel.

Pilots, masters of vessels, and others are hereby informed that the south edge of the channel will not be buoyed off as formerly; but that from sunrise to sunset two small red can-buoys will be laid in the vicinity of No. 11 gas-buoy to mark the alignment of the area being dredged, and it is requested that care be taken not to run them down.

As previously notified, mariners and others are warned, when in the vicinity of the Pile Light, to use the channel passage to the northward of the dredge, and to go quite slow when passing the dredge.

Notice of Intention to take Land for the Havelock and Mahakipawa Road.


NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a road in the County of Marlborough, and for the purposes of such public work the lands described in the Schedule hereto are required to be taken; and notice is further given that the plans of the said road and of the lands so required to be taken are deposited in the Survey Office, Blenheim, and are there open for inspection. And notice is hereby given that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land shall, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or by the taking of such lands, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.

Notice to Local Authorities under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886.”


The Treasury,
Wellington, 16th March, 1892.

PURSUANT to section 16 of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” the Colonial Treasurer hereby gives notice that, on Wednesday, the 13th April, 1892, he will be prepared to consider applications from local authorities for loans under the Act.

Applications should be addressed to the Colonial Treasurer, and in the corner of the envelope the words “Local Bodies’ Loans” should be written; and every application must be posted so as to arrive at the Treasury on or before the 12th April, 1892.
