Special Order made by the Moa Road Board, County of Taranaki.

THE following special order, made by the Moa Road Board, is published in accordance with "The Road Boards Act, 1882."

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Moa Road Board, in the County of Taranaki, on the 27th January, 1892, and confirmed on the 27th February, 1892.
THAT, to secure the payment of of a loan of £150, to be raised under "The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886," for the purpose of improving the Kohete Road, a special rate of 3d. in the pound be made and levied on all rateable property within the Kohete Special Rating District, comprising the following lands, viz., Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, Block VII., Section 29, Block II., and Section 50, Block III., Huiroa Survey District; such rate to be an annually-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be payable, in two half-yearly instalments, on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each year.
That, to secure the payment of a loan of £240, to be raised under "The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886," for the purpose of improving the Kupara Road, a special rate of 3d. in the pound be made and levied on all rateable property within the Kupara Special Rating District, comprising the following lands, viz., Sections 47, 48, 52, 53, Block VI., and Sections 5 and 6, Block VII., Huiroa Survey District; such rate to be an annually-recurring rate for twenty-six years, payable, in two half-yearly instalments, on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each year.
I certify that the above special order has been duly made in accordance with section 75 of "The Road Boards Act, 1882."

Bonus for the Manufacture of Pig-iron from Ironsand or Iron-ore.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £1 per ton will be paid on the production of the first 500 tons of pig-iron of marketable quality manufactured in the colony after this date from magnetic or titaniferous ironsand or iron-ore, all material, fuel, and fluxes being the produce of New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:-

The bonus must be claimed before the 31st March, 1893.

The bonus will be payable in instalments of £50 as each lot of 50 tons of iron is manufactured, on the certificate of an officer appointed by the Minister of Mines that the iron is of good marketable quality.

In the event of more than one person manufacturing the required quality of pig-iron before the date named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided; but in no case shall the total amount of money paid by way of bonus exceed £500.

The iron in respect of which any bonus is claimed and the ironsand or ore from which it is manufactured will be examined by the officer aforesaid, who may require proof that not only the ore, but that the lime, coal, and any other material used in the manufacture, is of genuine New Zealand production, and that sales of pig-iron have been made at fair market prices.

Bonus for the Manufacture of Salt.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £1 per ton will be paid on the production of the first 500 tons of salt, exclusively either by evaporation of salt-water or from rock mined in the colony, on the following conditions, that is to say:-

The bonus must be claimed before the 31st March, 1893.

Not more than £250 will be paid for salt manufactured in the North Island, and not more than £250 for salt manufactured in the South Island.

The bonus will be payable in instalments of £50 as each lot of 50 tons of salt is manufactured, on the certificate of an officer appointed by the Minister of Mines that the salt is of good marketable quality.

In the event of more than one person manufacturing the stated quantity of salt in the North or South Islands respectively before the 31st March, 1893, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus in either the North Island or the South Island, the amount will be divided, but in no case shall more than £250 be paid for salt manufactured in the North Island and £250 for salt manufactured in the South Island.

The salt in respect of which any bonus is claimed and the material used in its manufacture will be examined by the officer aforesaid, who may require proof that the salt is of genuine New Zealand production, and that sales have been made at fair market prices.

My LORD,-I have laid before the Queen your telegram of the 16th instant, expressing the sympathy which, in common with the whole of the people of New Zealand, you feel upon the sad occasion of the death of the Duke of Clarence and Avondale.
I am commanded by Her Majesty to request that you will let it be known that Her Majesty and the Royal Family find much consolation in this and the numerous other messages of condolence which have reached them from the colonies.

BEACONS, TAIKUPU RIVER.

Wellington, 25th February, 1892.
NOTICE is hereby given that two beacons painted white have been erected on the east side of Taikupu River, south-east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Captain Fairchild reports that the course in, with the beacons in line, is north-west three-quarters north, and it leads in in between 6ft. and 7ft. of water at high-water springs.

FOVEAUX STRAIT.-ROCK OFF DOG ISLAND, NEAR BLUFF HARBOUR.

NOTICE is hereby given that a rocky shoal has been discovered with only 17ft. of water on it at low-water springs, with Dog Island Lighthouse bearing about S.W. ½ S. magnetic, and distant therefrom about a mile to a mile and a quarter.
Particulars of its exact position will be published as soon as possible.
