Appointing Limits for Port of Wanganui.

IN exercise of the power in me for this purpose vested by
"The Customs Laws Consolidation Act, 1882," I, James
Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government of the
Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint that, on and
after the day of the date hereof, the limits of the Port of
Wanganui shall be as follows:—
The Town of Wanganui, with the waters of the Wanganui
River from Nixon's Creek, above the town, to the mouth of
the river, and extending seaward within an arc of a circle
having a radius of two miles from Knowles Block No. 4.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Adminis-
trator of the Government, this twenty-seventh
day of February, one thousand eight hundred
and ninety-two.

*Amended Regulations under "The Mining Act, 1891."

WHEREAS by the three hundred and forty-first section
of "The Mining Act, 1891," it is enacted that it
shall be lawful for the Governor, subject to the provisions
of the said Act, from time to time to make, alter, amend,
and revoke regulations for all or any of the purposes therein
mentioned:
And whereas, in pursuance and exercise of the herein-
before in part recited authority, regulations were made on
the twenty-third day of December last, and came into opera-
tion on the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred
and ninety-two, and it is desirable to amend certain of the
said regulations as hereinafter set forth:—
Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, the Administrator
of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, in pur-
suance and exercise of the powers and authorities in that
behalf conferred upon me by the said in part recited Act,
do hereby make the amendments in the said regulations
which are herein set forth, that is to say,—
Rural Lands in the Hawke's Bay Land District open for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the third section of "The Land Act
Amendment Act, 1887" (hereinafter termed "the said Act"), I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the
Government of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the
said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale
or selection, after the lapse of a period of not less than forty-five days from the date of the first public notification
hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, in the manner and upon the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at the price
per acre stated in the said Schedule.

access to metalled road by about 60 chains of unformed road, cleared and in grass.

About 100 acres level or undulating, remainder hilly, pastoral country; soil generally light stony to deep loam in
some places; within one mile of metalled road.
The block is situated at the back of the Maharahara settled district, and abuts on lands which are to a very large
extent cleared and occupied, with excellent road-access from the line of railway. It is all forest country, generally of a
hilly character, being the lower slopes of the Ruahine Ranges, and varying in elevation from 1,000ft. to 1,800ft. above
sea-level. It is timbered principally with rata, rimu, hinau, and puketea, with birch on the highest ridges. All the land
is well watered, and the soil is generally light and stony, though better in some of the low river-flats.

February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two.

Regulation numbered 81 of the said regulations is amended
as follows: after the words "miners' rights" in sub-clause (o)
of the said regulation the following words shall be inserted:
"To cut and remove timber (except kauri or reserved trees)
for fencing and for their own domestic use, or for props,
caps, laths, sluice-boxes, or paying-blocks for sluice-boxes,
in connection with claims held by them personally or con-
jointly with their partners, or in which they are working
as wages-men."
Regulation 261 of the said regulations is amended by in-
serting the following proviso at the end thereof: "Provided,
further, that every certificate granted under this regulation
shall be subject to the rights of every holder of a miner's
right, and every person on whose behalf a consolidated
miner's right is granted to cut timber (except kauri or re-
served trees) for fencing and for his own domestic use, or for
props, caps, laths, sluice-boxes, or paying-blocks for sluice-
boxes, in connection with the claim held by him personally
or conjointly with his partners, or in which he is working
as wages-man, over any area for which such certificate is
granted."
Regulation 267 of the said regulations is amended by omit-
ting therefrom the words "for his own exclusive use," and
by inserting the following proviso at the end thereof: "Pro-
vided that every sawmill timber certificate shall be granted
subject to the right of any holder of a miner's right, and
every person on whose behalf a consolidated miner's right is
granted shall be entitled to cut and remove timber (not being
kauri or reserved trees) for fencing and his own domestic use,
or for props, caps, laths, sluice-boxes, or paying-blocks for
sluice-boxes, in connection with the claim held by him per-
sonally or conjointly with his partners, or in which he is
working as wages-man, over any area for which a sawmill
timber certificate is issued.
Schedules numbered 43 and 44 of the said regulations are
hereby amended by the insertion of the words at the end
thereof respectively, "subject also to all rights conferred or
reserved by the regulations for the time being in force
under 'The Mining Act, 1891.'"

trator of the Government, this twenty-seventh
day of February, one thousand eight hundred and
ninety-two.
