NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

Published by Authority.

WELLINGTON, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1891.

Rural Land in the Hawke's Bay Land District open for
Sale or Selection.

ONSLOW, Governor.

I N pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the third section of “The Land
Act Amendment Act, 1887” (hereinafter termed “the said
Act”), I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the
Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is
provided, do hereby declare that the rural land enumerated
in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection,
after the lapse of a period of not less than forty-five days
from the date of the first public notification hereof, in the
manner and upon the conditions mentioned in the said Act,
and at the price per acre stated in the said Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

UNSURVEYED FIRST- AND SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Waiau Survey District.—Waipaoa County.

Blocks I., II., and XXVIII.; area, 8,996 acres. Cash
price per acre, 7s. 6d. to £1; deferred-payment price per
acre, 9s. 4½d. to £1 5s.; perpetual-lease rent per acre, 4½d.
to 1s.

Bounded towards the north generally by a line from north-
east corner of Section No. 1, Block V., Waiau Survey Dis-
trict, to the Kirikiri Road, to peg marked x.; thence by the
said road to peg marked cxxx.; thence by a line in a north-
easterly direction, 150 chains; thence in a south-easterly
direction by a line, 57 chains, to the south-west corner of
Section No. 1, Block I., Waiau Survey District; towards
the east by Section No. 1, Block I., Section No. 1, Block III.,
and Block IX., all in the Waiau Survey District; and
towards the south by Blocks VI., VII., and V., Waiau Survey
District.

Forest country, situated on the southern lower slopes of
the Panikirikiri Range, the higher portions being reserved
for climatic purposes. The land is hilly and broken, the
altitude varying from 1,500ft. to 3,500ft. above sea-level, the
level of the lake being 2,015ft. The country on the southern
side of the range is very rough, being considerably broken by
deep gullies. The land on the top of the ridges is poor, being
mostly covered with pumice sand, but in the gullies it is
fair. The timber on the higher portions, though principally
black- and silver-birch, has a very fair sprinkling of totara,
rimu, and miro; and on the lower portions white-pine, matai,
and tawa. The land is well watered by numerous streams,
and as there is considerable rainfall during the year it should
be well adapted for pastoral purposes. The eastern side of
the block is connected with Wairoa, distant about thirty-
four miles, by the Wairoa–Waikaremoana Road, now being
constructed for dray-traffic; and an accommodation-house,
recently burnt down, is being rebuilt on the old site.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor
this twenty-first day of November, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-one.

A. J. CADMAN,
For the Minister of Lands.
