Proposed Alterations in Boundaries of Electoral Districts.

Wellington, 14th October, 1891.

THE Commissioners appointed under “The Representation Act, 1887,” and amendments thereof, hereby publish for general information, in terms of section 4 of the said Act, the following proposed alterations in the boundaries of electoral districts; and, further, give notice that written objections to the same will be received at the office of the Commission, in Wellington, up to and including the 16th November, 1891.

Maps of the proposed districts will be furnished to each local body in the colony, and may be seen at the Chief Surveyor’s offices at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Napier, and Nelson.

NORTH ISLAND ELECTORAL DISTRICTS.

Bay of Islands comprises the Counties of Mangonui, Whangaroa, Hokianga, and Bay of Islands; together with the Ridings of Dargaville and Aratapu, of Hobson County; that portion of Ngunguru Riding, of Whangarei County, lying to the north of the Waiotu River and the road running through the Puhipuhi Blocks; and also that portion of Hikurangi Riding, of Whangarei County, which lies north-west of the Wairoa River, the Wairua River, and the Whakapara River. The boundary of this district where it runs through Whangarei County is unaltered.

Marsden comprises the whole of Whangarei County, excepting portions of the Ridings of Ngunguru and Hikurangi, situated in the existing Bay of Islands Electorate; together with the Ridings of Wairoa, Okahu, and Te Kopuru, in Hobson County; and the Ridings of Tokatoka, Mareretu, Paparoa, and Matakoe, in Otamatea County. This district includes the Town Districts of Whangarei and Kamo, and Mokohinau Lighthouse.

Waitemata comprises the whole of the County of Rodney; the Ridings of Wairau, Whakapirau, and Kaiwaka, in Otamatea County; the Ridings of Mairetahi, Kaukapakapa, and Wainui, and Helensville Town District, all in Waitemata County; together with that portion of Waitakerei Riding, of the last-mentioned county, situated north of the railway-line: thus leaving the southern boundary of this district between Waitemata Harbour and the West Coast unaltered. The Islands of Great and Little Barrier, Kawau, Motuhora, Tiritiri, and others adjacent thereto, are included in this electorate.

Eden comprises the Ridings of Takapuna, Northcote, and Birkenhead, of Waitemata County; and that portion of the same county lying to the south of the present electoral boundary; together with that portion of Arch Hill Road District, of Eden County, situated south-west of Cracroft Street; and portions of the Mount Albert and Mount Roskill Road Districts, of the same county, being a narrow strip of country lying between Kingsland Road and Mount Eden Road District, and Mount Albert Road and Eden and Epsom Road Districts; and bounded on the north by the railway-line, on the west by Kingsland Road, and on the south by Mount Albert Road to the Borough of Onehunga, on the east by the Auckland and Onehunga Road, again on the north by Epsom and Mount Eden Road Districts, and again on the east by the last-mentioned road district. This district includes also the Boroughs of Birkenhead and Devonport.

City of Auckland comprises the City of Auckland and the Borough of Newton; that part of Arch Hill Road District situated to the north-east of Cracroft Street; and that part of Mount Eden Road District situated between the city boundary and the railway-line, and adjoining Shaddock Street, on the Eden Terrace Road District boundary.

Manukau comprises a narrow strip of Whau Riding, of the Eden County, lying on the north and east of a line commencing opposite the Royal Oak Hotel, on the Auckland-Onehunga Road, and proceeding westerly along Mount Albert Road to Kingsland Road, thence northerly along Kingsland Road to the railway-line, and thence easterly along the railway-line passing the Kingsland Railway-station to the Mount Eden Road District boundary; together with that portion of Mount Eden Road District lying to the south of Valley Road and Oakland’s Road, and that portion of Epsom Road District lying south of Owen’s Road, west of Gillies Avenue, south of the road fronting Lot 23, and west of Epsom Road to Kyber Pass opposite the railway-workshops. This district includes also the Road Districts of Remuera, Tamaki West, Panmure, and Mount Wellington, and the Borough of Onehunga.

Parnell comprises the Eden Terrace Road District; that portion of Mount Eden Road District which lies to the north of Valley Road and Oakland’s Road, and south of the railway-line between the Eden Terrace Road District boundary and the City of Auckland boundary; and also that portion of Epsom Road District which lies north of Owen’s Road, west of Gillies Avenue, and north of the Educational Endowment (Lot 23A), and west of Epsom Road; together with the Boroughs of Parnell and Newmarket, and the Auckland Domain.
