WHANGAREI VOLUNTEER CORPS
on being formed into a Rifle Club.
The under-mentioned gentleman therefore ceases to be an officer in the New Zealand Volunteer Force, his commission having lapsed under “The Defence Act, 1886:”—

Licensing of Vehicles.—By-laws made by the Horowhenua County Council.

IT is hereby notified, in accordance with section 311 of “The Counties Act, 1886,” that the by-law made by the Horowhenua County Council, and sealed on the 9th August, 1890, appointing the several sums to be paid to the county funds for the licensing of vehicles, has this day been approved by His Excellency the Governor.

THE Government of Madras has given notice that the Armeghon Light, on the east coast of that Presidency, will be extinguished, for the purposes of repair, on the 1st October next, for a period of about two months.

LEADING-LIGHTS, ULLADULLA.
On and after the 1st September next two leading-lights (red and white) will be exhibited from sunset to sunrise from the beach at the head of the bay, for the purpose of guiding vessels into the Port of Ulladulla.
These lights in line, on a bearing of W. ¾ S. (magnetic), will lead vessels entering that port clear of all dangers until they arrive abreast of the pier-head.

PORT PHILLIP BAY.—WEST CHANNEL.
REFERRING to Notice to Mariners published the 22nd January, 1889, it is hereby notified that a shoal has formed in the vicinity of No. 6 Buoy, West Channel, there being now only 16ft. of water where formerly there were 26ft. In consequence of such formation, No. 6 Buoy has been shifted and moored in 21ft. of water, one cable W. by N. from its former position.

Declaring that certain Fences constructed in connection with the Line of Railway from Palmerston North by way of the Manawatu Gorge to Woodville, Palmerston-Gorge Section, shall be maintained at the Cost of Her Majesty the Queen.
A NOTIFICATION.
WHEREAS it is enacted by section fifteen of “The Public Works Acts Amendment Act, 1887,” that the Governor may from time to time, by Proclamation publicly gazetted, declare, on behalf of Her Majesty, that any fences constructed, or intended to be constructed, by or on behalf of Her Majesty, for separating land taken for the use of any railway in such Proclamation mentioned from the adjoining lands not taken, shall, to such extent as is mentioned in such Proclamation, be thereafter maintained, or erected and maintained, as the case may require, at the cost of Her Majesty during such time as the railway may continue to be used by or on behalf of the Government of New Zealand: And whereas it is desirable that the fences constructed on behalf of Her Majesty along the line of railway from Palmerston North by way of the Manawatu Gorge to Woodville, Palmerston-Gorge Section (to the extent mentioned in the Schedule below), shall be maintained, as hereinafter
