Vesting Control of the Maungatawhiri Bridge in Mercer Road Board.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by section four of "The Public Works Acts Amendment Act, 1887" (hereinafter termed "the said Act"), it is, inter alia, enacted that the Governor may, upon the terms and conditions in the said section mentioned, by Proclamation publicly notified, direct that any bridge already constructed, or which may hereafter be constructed, over or across any river or arm of the sea respectively, shall, from and after a date to be fixed in such Proclamation, be under the exclusive care, control, and management of such local authority as shall be mentioned in that behalf in such Proclamation:

And whereas it is expedient that the control and management of the bridge described in the Schedule hereto should be vested in the manner hereinafter described:

Now, therefore, I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities in me vested by the said Act, and of every other power and authority in any- wise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby direct that the bridge mentioned in the First Schedule hereto, and known as the Maungatawhiri Road Bridge, shall, from and after the seventh day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one, be under the exclusive care, control, and management of the Mercer Road Board; and I do hereby fix and determine that the Mercer Road Board shall itself provide out of its own funds the proportion of twenty-two one-hundredths of the total cost of managing and maintaining the said bridge, and that each local body mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto shall respectively, on demand in writing from the Mercer Road Board, pay to the said Board the proportion of the total cost of managing and maintaining the said bridge as set forth opposite the name of such local body respectively in such Second Schedule.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

THAT bridge over the Maungatawhiri River known as the Maungatawhiri Road Bridge, and the approaches on each side thereof, situate on the Great South Road, between Pokeno and Mercer, in the Land District of Auckland; as the same is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 13269, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon marked in red.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Name of Local Body. Proportion of the Total Cost of managing and maintaining the Maungatawhiri Bridge for which such Local Body is liable.

Pokeno Road Board .. Thirty-eight one-hundredths. Maungatawhiri Road Board Twenty-eight one-hundredths. Paparata Road Board .. Eight one-hundredths. East Pukekohe Road Board Four one-hundredths.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, of Onslow in the County of Salop; Viscount Cranley, of Cranley in the County of Surrey; Baron Onslow, of Onslow in the County of Salop, and of West Clandon in the County of Surrey; Baron Cranley, of Imbercourt; Baronet; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in- Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-eighth day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one
