CANTERBURY.

All that parcel of land in the Land District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 33 acres 3 roods 26 perches, more or less, being Reserve No. 2945 (in red), and formerly Lot No. 13 of Reserve No. 1381 (in red), Block VIII., on the map of the Rangitata Survey District, and Block V. on the map of the Hinds Survey District. Bounded towards the northward by a road-line, 5193·5 links; towards the eastward by a road-line, 1306 links; and towards the southward by a road-line along the northern side of the Railway Reserve, 5355·2 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on the map deposited in the District Survey Office, Christchurch. For plantation purposes.

WESTLAND.

All that parcel of land in the Land District of Westland, containing by admeasurement 50 acres, more or less, being Reserve No. 306 (in red), Block III., Waimea Survey District. Bounded towards the west by the Kumara Tramway Road Reserve; towards the south by a line running due east through tube xxxiii.; towards the east by the Railway Reserve; and towards the north by a line running due west: as the same is delineated on the map in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Hokitika. For a reserve for an old men’s home.

OTAGO.

All that parcel of land in the Land District of Otago, containing by admeasurement 5 acres 1 rood 30 perches, more or less, situate in the Town of Moeraki, and being Section No. 35, Block XVI., on map of said town. Bounded towards the north and east by a street-line, 1550 links; towards the south by Haven Street, 650 links; and towards the west by Sections Nos. 1 of 15 and 2 of 15, Block I., Moeraki District, 980 links: as the same is delineated on the map deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Dunedin. For a site for a convalescent home.

All that parcel of land in the Land District of Otago, containing by admeasurement 86 acres 1 rood, more or less, situate in the Woodland District, and being Section No. 13, Block I., of said district. Bounded towards the north, east, and south by a road reserve fronting the ocean, 9300 links; and towards the west by a road-line, 3600 links: as the same is delineated on the map deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Dunedin. For a pilot- and signal-station reserve.

All that parcel of land in the Township of Bannockburn, in the Land District of Otago, containing by admeasurement 1 rood 28 perches, more or less, being Sections Nos. 6 and 7, Block VI. Bounded towards the north by Section No. 5; towards the east by King Street; towards the south by Terrace Street; and towards the west by Duke Street: as the same is delineated on the map deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Dunedin. For an addition to the athenæum-site.

SOUTHLAND.

All that parcel of land in the Land District of Southland, containing by admeasurement 1 acre, more or less, being Sections Nos. 8, 9, 10, 11, Block XXII., Town of Riverton. Bounded on the north-east by Section No. 12 of said Block XXII., 250 links; on the south-east by High Street, 400 links; on the south-west by Section No. 7 of said Block XXII., 250 links; and on the north-west by Sections Nos. 21, 20, 19, and 18 of said Block XXII., 400 links: as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Invercargill. For a gravel-pit.

ONSWLOW, Governor.

WHEREAS by the two hundred and twenty-seventh section of “The Land Act, 1885,” it is enacted that the Governor may from time to time, either by general or particular description, and whether the same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:

Now, therefore, I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in the Land Districts of Nelson, Marlborough, and Canterbury, described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purposes in the said Schedule specified.


SCHEDULE.

NELSON.

ALL that parcel of land in the Nelson Land District, containing by admeasurement 5 acres 1 rood 22 perches, more or less, being Section No. 42, Block I., Kawatiri Survey District. Bounded towards the north-east by a public road, 629 links; towards the south-east and south-west by Section No. 21, 1000 and 478 links; and towards the north-west by Section No. 22, 954 links: as the same is delineated on the plan in the Survey Office, Nelson. For a cemetery-site.

MARLBOROUGH.

All that parcel of land in the Marlborough Land District, containing by admeasurement 4 acres, more or less, being Section No. 5, Block I., Linkwater Survey District. Bounded on the north by Section No. 4, Block I., in the said survey district, 866·4 links; on the east by a public road, 1 chain wide, along the shores of Pelorus Sound; on the south by said Section No. 4, Block I., 673 links; and on the west by the said Section No. 4, Block I., 500 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Blenheim. For a landing-place.

All that area in the Marlborough Land District, containing by admeasurement 6 acres and 31 perches, more or less, situated in Block X., Mount Fyffe Survey District. Bounded towards the north by Section No. 1, Block X., said survey district; towards the east by a public road; towards the south by Section No. 294, Kaikoura Suburban, said survey district; and towards the west by Native Reserve D: as the same is more particularly shown on the official map in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Blenheim. For a reserve for the aboriginal natives.

CANTERBURY.

All that parcel of land in the Town of Waimate, containing by admeasurement 2 acres 1 rood, more or less. Bounded towards the east generally by the Hospital Reserves Nos. 2387 and 1861; towards the south-east by Queen Street; towards the west generally by the terrace forming the left bank of the old bed of the Waimate Creek; and towards the north-west by Naylor Street: as the same is delineated on the plan in the Survey Office, Christchurch. For an addition to the Hospital Reserve.

Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Akaroa, and Kaikoura Districts brought under “The Destitute Persons Act, 1877,” in respect of the Native Race.


ONSWLOW, Governor.

WHEREAS by the forty-third section of “The Destitute Persons Act, 1877,” it is enacted that the said Act shall come into operation, in respect of persons of the aboriginal native race, in such districts and at such times as the Governor shall from time to time appoint:

Now, therefore, I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me in this behalf, do hereby appoint the districts described in the Schedule hereto to be districts in which “The Destitute Persons Act, 1877,” shall, on and after the twentieth day of August instant, come into operation in respect of persons of the aboriginal native race.


SCHEDULE.

The Christchurch District, as the same is described in a Proclamation issued under “The Resident Magistrates Act, 1867,” dated the 10th April, 1888, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th April, 1888.

The Kaiapoi District, as the same is described in a Proclamation issued under “The Resident Magistrates Act, 1867,” dated the 20th February, 1885, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 26th February, 1885.

The Akaroa District, as the same is described in a Proclamation issued under “The Resident Magistrates Act, 1867,” dated the 1st November, 1871, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 20th November, 1871.

The Kaikoura District, as the same is described in a Proclamation issued under “The Resident Magistrates Act, 1867,” dated the 12th March, 1869, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 19th March, 1869.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this nineteenth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one.
