this light was exhibited on the 1st June, 1891, the position
and characteristics of which are as follows:—
The lighthouse is situated on the south side of the
Maatsuyker Island, which lies off the south coast of Tas-
mania, in lat. 43° 39′ 30″ S., long. 146° 17′ 30″ E. (approxi-
mate).
The tower is 42ft. in height from base to top of the lantern,
and is painted white.
The light is the first order dioptric group, flashing white
light, giving a quick double flash at intervals of thirty seconds.
The light is elevated 350ft. above the mean sea-level, and,
allowing 10ft. for the height of the eye, can be seen in
clear weather at a distance of twenty-five miles.
The light is eclipsed by the island on a bearing from S. 5° E.
round north and east to S. 73° W., and by the Needle
Rocks, at a distance of six miles and under, on a bearing
from N. 62° E. to N. 68° E.

general information.

BRISBANE RIVER BAR.—POSITION OF SUNKEN STEAMER
“KATE.”
WITH reference to Notice No. 33 of 1890, issued on the 12th
November last, further notice is given that, the vessel’s masts
being now removed, a green buoy is moored about one-third
of a cable to the northward of the position of the wreck.

POWDER BUOYS.—PORT ADELAIDE RIVER.
NOTICE is hereby given that the black mooring-buoy, Lipson’s
Reach (for vessels having explosives on board), has been re-
moved, and in lieu thereof two mooring-buoys have been
placed on the western side of the cutting, in 20ft. low-water
springs.
Masters and pilots of vessels must in future moor such
vessels head and stern.
The buoys are painted red, and will serve as a guide to the
edge of the cutting.

Alterations and Additions to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and
Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Railways.
THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in exercise
and pursuance of the powers conferred by “The
Government Railways Act, 1887,” do hereby make the fol-
lowing alterations in and additions to the scale of fares,
rates, and charges on the New Zealand railways, to come
into force on and after the 27th day of July, 1891:—
PART IV.—LOCAL RATES.
NAPIER–TARANAKI SECTION.
Limed pelts and tallow, in casks, consigned from Long-
burn to Foxton will be charged 7s. 6d. per ton, including
wharfage. Minimum quantity, 4 tons.

This section is situated on the Rock Road, one mile in
from the main road, and comprises a narrow strip along a
gully, being part of Section No. 19, originally selected by
Mr. Moore, and since severed from his land by the new road:
the land has been improved by felling and grassing to the
value of £27 5s., with which the section is weighted.
