Notice of Application to amend Specification.

Wellington, 28th May, 1891.
A REQUEST to be allowed to amend the complete speci-
fication relating to the under-mentioned application
has been received, and is open to public inspection. Any
person may, at any time within one month from the date
of this Gazette, give me notice in writing, in duplicate,
of opposition to the amendment, stating in such notice the
particular grounds of his objection. A fee of 10s. is pay-
able with such notice:—
No. 4255.—ALFRED SCULTHORP MINETT, Gentleman, and
ISAAC JONES, Railway Employé, both of Huntly, Auckland,
New Zealand. An invention for treating ironsand, to be
known as "Minett and Jones' Patent Fluxing Process for
Ironsand."
The applicants desire to amend their specification in the
following manner, and state as their reasons that such speci-
fication is "insufficient in the required detail or explana-
tion:"—

By striking out the words "minerals for," in line 13,
and inserting instead the words "substances as." -
By inserting the words "also to," between the words
"and" and "a," in line 13. -
By striking out the word "amalgamating," in line 14,
and inserting instead the words "Amalgamation of the same
with." -
By striking out the words "with the flux," in line 15,
and inserting instead the words "of New Zealand." -
By striking out the words "our," in line 16, and insert-
ing in place thereof the words "The substances or material
constituting this." -
By striking out the words "consists of minerals which
we designate as among," in lines 16 and 17, and inserting
instead the words "we find to be most readily obtained in
the form of the existing natural products generally known
as." -
By inserting the word "certain" between the words
"or" and "clay," in line 18. -
By striking out the words "either of which or combined
act as a quick flux," in lines 19 and 20, and inserting in
place thereof the following sentence: "These substances
generally contain the chemical component parts necessary
to the fluxing of iron oxides." -
By striking out the word "for," in line 20, and insert-
ing instead the words "To apply this invention to." -
By inserting after the words "New Zealand," in line
21, the following words, viz.: "We take one or more of
the above-mentioned natural substances, selecting the same
according to chemical composition, and subject such to a
grinding or crushing process until the same has been reduced
to such a degree of fineness as to assume on the addition of
water the required plasticity." -
By striking out the words "To produce and amalga-
mate the flux with the sand we utilise," in lines 22 and 23,
and inserting instead the following words, viz.: "The iron-
sand is then mixed in predetermined proportions by any
suitable mechanical agency, and when mixed sufficiently
the mass is then made into blocks or other suitable agglome-
rated form. These prepared blocks we propose to dry by the
aid of." -
By inserting between the words "the" and "heat," in
line 23, the word "waste." -
By striking out the words "by conducting the gases
escaping therefrom into the amalgamator, afterwards intro-
ducing a jet of atmospheric air, thus completing our amal-
gamating process for," in lines 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28, and
inserting in place thereof the words "if deemed expedient." -
By striking out the word "smelting," in line 28, and
inserting instead the following words, viz.: "When the blocks
are sufficiently coherent we proceed to smelt them as in the
case of ordinary." -
By substituting the words "ores of iron" for the
words "the ironsand," in line 29. -
By striking out the words "the use of," in line 33,
and inserting in place thereof the words "The reduction to
powder, and the mixing of naturally-occurring substances
such as." -
By striking out the words "for smelting," in line 35,
and inserting instead the words "to be selected by analysis,
with black." -
By inserting between the words "ironsand" and "also,"
in lines 35 and 36, the words "so as to form blocks or other
agglomerates, the necessary moisture being added to these
to give coherence." -
By striking out the words "the utilisation of heat
escaping from the blast furnace for the purpose of amalga-
mating the flux with the," in lines 36, 37, and 38, and insert-
ing instead the words "The smelting of such prepared." -
By inserting after the word "ironsand," in the last
line, the words "in the way by which ordinary iron ores are
treated."
