will be retained for the purposes of record.
4. Each signature to an application must be attested by a
Judge, Registrar, or Licensed Interpreter of the Native Land
Court, a Justice of the Peace, a Solicitor of the Supreme
Court, a Clerk of Resident Magistrate’s Court, or a Post-
master.
5. In cases where the application is written in English,
but signed by a Native, in addition to the attestation of the
signature, a certificate must be appended, signed by a
Licensed Interpreter of the Native Land Court, certifying
that the application was read over in Maori, and explained
to the Native before signing, and that he appeared fully to
understand the same.
6. Any person signing the name of another to any applica-
tion without sufficient authority will render himself liable to
such penalties as the law provides. In all cases where prac-
ticable the authority to sign as agent should accompany the
application.

Civil Service Senior Examination.

IN pursuance of regulations under “The Civil Service
Reform Act, 1886,” notice is hereby given that for the
Senior Examination of January, 1892, the period of litera-
ture will be the period of the Commonwealth, and the special
books will be Shakespeare’s King Lear and The Tempest.

Any person may, at any time within two months from the
date of this Gazette, give me notice in writing, in duplicate,
of opposition to the grant of the patent, stating in such
notice the particular grounds of his objection.
No. 4851.—ROBERT COCKERELL, of Invercargill, New Zea-
land, Blacksmith. An invention entitled “R. Cockerell’s
Patent Reversible Dividend Cradle Dredge-bucket for Mining
and other Purposes.”

No. 4852.—LLOYD ALONZO KIMBALL, of Sydney, New
South Wales, Manager of the Parke and Lacy Company,
Dealer in Machinery and Supplies. An invention for im-
provements in certain descriptions of ore-concentrators.
No. 4853.—HENRY AMBROSE SNELLING, of St. George’s
House, 6 and 8, Eastcheap, in the City of London, England,
Wholesale Tea-dealer. An invention for a new or improved
method of treating and preparing hops and blending the
same for infusion together with tea, coffee, cocoa, and other
substances for which such prepared hops are applicable.
No. 4854.—GEORGE GILBERT, of Woodville, New Zealand,
Contractor. An invention entitled “The Little Gem Com-
bined Washing-bath, Rubbing-board, Soap-tray, and Dress-
apron.”
No. 4728.—CHARLES BURGON, of La Plata Works, Malin
Bridge, Sheffield, England, Sheep-shear Manufacturer. An
invention for improvements in machines for shearing or
clipping sheep or other animals.

NOTICE is hereby given that the CHRISTCHURCH MEAT COMPANY (LIMITED), of No. 156, Hereford Street, Christ-
church, New Zealand, has applied to register, under “The Patents, Designs, and Trade-marks Act, 1889,” the
trade-mark of which the following is a representation:—

Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade-mark shall apply.
Frozen mutton and lamb, to be applied to the wrappers or coverings of the same, and also to the leg-tickets affixed to
the carcases when shipped.
