low sandhills, North Spit. The upper beacon is painted black, the other two are painted white. These three beacons in line, N.E. ¾ N., give a clear channel in from seaward, five fathoms at low water on the outer bar being the least water on the line of beacons. Steer in with these beacons in line until between North Spit and Tory Shoal; then two smaller beacons, erected on the slope of the North Head, eastward of lighthouse, and painted black, will be seen. When these are brought in a line, N.E. ¾ E., a vessel will be well clear of the edge of Tory Shoal, and a course may be steered along the land until abreast of the lighthouse, paying attention to any directions given from signal-station close to lighthouse.

The lighthouse is now painted white, and is no longer a leading-mark for entering the harbour.

THOS. FERGUS,
(For the Minister having charge of the Marine Department.)
