NOTICE is hereby given that Lieut. Pirie, R.N., commanding Her Majesty's surveying vessel “Paluma,” reports as follows :—
A depth of 23ft. at low-water spring-tides has been found on the Beresford Shoals. It lies with black beacon on North-west Reef, S. 71° W.; 234-Feet Hill on Ince Point, S. 26½° W.; summit of East Strait Island, S. 75° E. Bearings are magnetic.

New Zealand Railways.—Public Notice.
TARANAKI ART AND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
Railway Department (Head Office),
Wellington, 21st October, 1890.
GOODS consigned for exhibit at the Art and Industrial Exhibition, to be held at New Plymouth, in connection with the Taranaki Jubilee Festival, in March and April, 1891, will be carried free on the New Zealand railways, provided that they shall be so carried at the sole risk of the consignors, and that each package shall be consigned to the Secretary of the Exhibition, and marked legibly “For exhibit at the Taranaki Art and Industrial Exhibition, New Plymouth.” The loading and unloading must be done at the expense of the consignors. In the event of such exhibits being sold, the full railway charges must be paid.
Exhibits returning may be conveyed free, provided no sale or exchange has been effected. A certificate to this effect must be produced, signed by the Secretary of the Exhibition, before the goods can be received for transit free of charge.
