Contribution of Levels Road Board towards the Cost of Maintaining the Upper Pareora Traffic-bridge transferred to Geraldine County Council.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by section four of “The Public Works Act Amendment Act, 1887” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is, inter alia, enacted that the Governor may, upon the terms and conditions in the said section mentioned, by Proclamation publicly notified, direct that any bridge already constructed, or which may hereafter be constructed, over or across any river or arm of the sea respectively, shall, from and after a date to be fixed in such Proclamation, be under the exclusive care, control, and management of such local authority as shall be mentioned in that behalf in such Proclamation; and may, by any subsequent Proclamation publicly notified, from time to time vary or alter such care, control, and management; and may, by any such Proclamation as aforesaid, fix and determine whether all or any, and, if so, what, part of the cost of maintaining, repairing, improving, or reconstructing any such bridge is to be provided and paid by any local authorities; and may, by any such Proclamation, direct how, when, and to whom any such payment is to be made:

And whereas the bridge known as the Upper Pareora Traffic-bridge, and described in the Schedule hereto, was placed under the care, control, and management of the Waimate County Council by a Proclamation dated the nineteenth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 63, of the twenty-second day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight; and by such Proclamation it was fixed and determined that the Levels Road Board should, on demand in writing from the Waimate County Council, pay to the said Council from time to time one-half of the actual cost of managing and maintaining the said bridge:

And whereas it is desirable that the Levels Road Board should be released from such payment, and that the Geraldine County Council should be made responsible for the same as from the date hereinafter mentioned:

Now, therefore, I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities in me vested by the said Act, and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby fix and determine that, from and after the date of the first publication hereof in the Timaru Herald newspaper, the Geraldine County Council shall, on demand in writing from the Waimate County Council, pay to the Waimate County Council from time to time one-half of the actual cost of managing and maintaining the said bridge, in lieu of the Levels Road Board; and that so much of the Proclamation dated the nineteenth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight, above mentioned, as fixes and determines that the Levels Road Board is to pay such half-cost, shall be cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of these presents.

SCHEDULE.

The bridge over the Pareora River known as the Upper Pareora Traffic-bridge, and the approaches on each side thereof, situated on the line of road which passes in a north-easterly direction through Section No. 7105, in the County of Waimate, and between Sections Nos. 12750 and 16029, in the County of Geraldine, all in the Provincial District of Canterbury; as the same is delineated on the plans marked P.W.D. 15934, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington, and thereon marked in red.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, of Onslow in the County of Salop; Viscount Cranley, of Cranley in the County of Surrey; Baron Onslow, of Onslow in the County of Salop, and of West Clandon in the County of Surrey; Baron Cranley, of Imbercourt; Baronet; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at Dunedin, this fifteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in the Governor by “The Marriage Act, 1880,” I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby abolish the existing marriage districts known as the Mahurangi and Waiwera Districts, and do proclaim and declare that the territory heretofore

ERRATUM.—In New Zealand Gazette No. 4, of the 23rd January, 1890, page 74, “Justices of the Peace appointed,” for “William Moon, Esq., of Cambridge,” read “Henry Moon, Esq., of Cambridge.”
