All that parcel of land in the Land District of Nelson, containing by admeasurement 4 acres 1 rood 8 perches, more or less, being Section No. 8, Block XIII., Wangapeka Survey District. Bounded on the northward by a road reserve on the bank of the Wangapeka River, 1040 links; on the eastward by Section No. 6, Block XIII., Wangapeka District, 827 links; and on the south-westward by Crown lands, 1322 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Nelson. CANTERBURY.

All that parcel of land in the Land District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 5 acres, more or less, being Reserve No. 2623 (in red), formerly part of Lot No. 36 of Reserve No. 350 (in red), situated in Block III., Hinds District. Bounded towards the north by a road-line, 750·7 links; towards the east by a road-line, 712·5 links; towards the south by said Lot No. 36, 663·5 links; and towards the west by the same Lot No. 36, 707·1 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on the plan in the District Survey Office, Christchurch. All that parcel of land in the Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 5 acres, more or less, being Reserve No. 2872 (in red), Block XV., on the map of the Rangiora Survey District. Bounded towards the northward by the road forming the southern boundary of Section No. 5301; on the southward by the north branch of the Waimakariri River; and towards the eastward by Section No. 1443 and a road-line. SOUTHLAND.

All that parcel of land in the Land District of Southland, containing by admeasurement 3 acres 2 roods, more or less, being Sections Nos. 4 to 17, inclusive, Block IV., Otautau Township. Bounded on the north-east by Main Road, 7 chains; on the south-east by Durham Street, 5 chains; on the south-west by King Street, 7 chains; and on the north-west by Sections Nos. 3 and 18 of said block, 5 chains: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Invercargill. Bounded on the north-east by Sections Nos. 1 and 2 of said block, 200 links; on the south-east by Section No. 18 of said block, 250 links; on the south-west by King Street, 200 links; and on the north-west by Rochdale Street, 250 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Invercargill. WESTLAND.

All that parcel of land in the Land District of Westland, containing by admeasurement 1 acre, more or less, being Reserve No. 301 (in red), Block XV., Waimea Survey District. Bounded towards the south-west by Callaghan's Road, 400 links; towards the north-west by Crown lands, 272 links; towards the north-east by Crown lands, 400 links; and towards the south-east by Crown lands, 272 links. For a school-site.

All that parcel of land in the Land District of Westland, containing by admeasurement 2 acres, more or less, being Reserve No. 302 (in red), Block III., Kanieri Survey District. Bounded towards the south and south-east by the Christchurch Road; towards the west by Crown lands, 220 links; and towards the north by Railway Reserve No. 1. For a school-site.

Assent to the Construction of the Cobden and Coal Creek Railway, from a Point on the Curtis Road, in the Township of Cobden, near the Northern Approach to the Cobden Bridge, to a Point on the Road and Railway Reserve near the Seven-mile Creek, a distance of 4 miles and 78 chains or thereabouts.

ONSLow, Governor.

WHEREAS by “The District Railways Act, 1877,” and “The District Railways Act 1877 Amendment Act, 1878” (herein referred to as “the said Act”), and other Acts, it is enacted that, whenever the Governor shall approve of or object to any proposed railway, he shall, by notice gazetted, declare his assent to or disapproval of the construction of the railway, and such notice when so published shall be sufficient notice to the company of such approval or dissent, as the case may be: And whereas the Cobden Railway and Coal Company (Limited) proposes to construct a railway under the said Act, and has made application to me for my approval of the construction of the said railway under the twentieth section of the said Act, and has complied with the provisions of the said Act as prescribed by the same section so far as material to such application; and it appears expedient that such approval should be given:

Now, therefore, I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers vested in me by the said Act, do hereby notify and declare that I do hereby approve of the construction of the Cobden and Coal Creek Railway, from a point on the Curtis Road, in the Township of Cobden, near the northern approach to the Cobden Bridge, to a point on the road and railway reserve near the Seven-mile Creek, a distance of four miles and seventy-eight chains or thereabouts: as shown on the plan and in the book of reference deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington, and numbered P.W.D. 16239.

And I do hereby further notify and declare that this assent is given conditionally on the rate of tolls and charges for the carriage of passengers, animals, goods, and merchandise on the said railway, and the rent or charge to be made for the storage of goods, produce, or merchandise on the said railway, not exceeding the rates and charges set out in the Schedule hereto, and also conditionally on the minimum number of trains to be run on the said railway being two each way daily, Sundays excepted.
