Civil Service Senior Examination.

IN pursuance of regulations under “The Civil Service Reform Act, 1886,” notice is hereby given that for the Senior Examination of January, 1891, the period of literature will be the period from 1800 to 1850, and the special books will be Milton’s Samson Agonistes, and Shelley’s Prometheus Unbound.

Alterations and Additions to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in force on the New Zealand Railways.
THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in exercise and pursuance of the powers conferred by “The Government Railways Act, 1887,” do hereby make the following alterations in and additions to the scale of fares, rates, and charges on the New Zealand railways, to come into force on and after the 11th day of August, 1890:—
PART IV.—LOCAL RATES.
AUCKLAND SECTION.
Coke from Auckland or Onehunga to Huntly, and native coal from Onehunga to Huntly, will be charged 7s. 2d. per ton.

No. 4510.—JAMES GRAY, of Dunedin, New Zealand, Agricultural-implement Maker. An invention for improvements in digging-ploughs—a combined detachable land- and side-piece.
No. 4511.—JOHN STEWART REID, of Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand, Solicitor. An invention for an improved device for securing fence-wires to droppers or standards.
