Rural Lands in the Southland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

ONSLow, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the third section of “The Land Act Amendment Act, 1887” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection, after the lapse of a period of not less than forty-five days from the date of the first public notification hereof, in the manner and upon the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at the price per acre stated in the said Schedule.

SCHEDULE.
UNSURVEYED LAND.
First-class Land.
ALL that portion of Blocks X. and VII., Oteramika Hundred, comprising 500 acres, bounded on the north-east by Sections Nos. 18 and 19, Block X.; on the east by the Mataura River; on the south by Sections Nos. 39 and 40, Block VII.; and on the west by a line drawn from the west corner of said Section No. 19 to north corner of said Section No. 39. Price, £1 per acre.
Description of Land: Fair quality, partly river-flat, mostly scrub-clad, lying some eleven miles from Edendale.
Second-class Land.
The unsurveyed and unappropriated land in Block IX., and in that part of Block XIV., Oteramika Hundred, lying north of the goldfield, comprising 6,200 acres. Sections abutting on the Mataura River to be surveyed with a depth back from river of at least 40 chains. Areas to be rectangular, and laid off on meridian and perpendicular where practicable. Roads to be surveyed where required. Land fronting river, 15s. per acre; land at the rear, 10s. per acre.
Description of Land: Mostly wet and peaty; a block dry, lightly-timbered, and scrub in places; along the Mataura River; situated about five miles from Fortrose.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this seventeenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and ninety.

WHEREAS by “The New Zealand Institute Act, 1867,” provision is made for the appointment of members of a Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute, and it is enacted that, on the first day of November, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, and on the first day of November in each succeeding year, three members of the said Board of Governors shall retire from office, but shall be eligible for reappointment: And whereas the Venerable Archdeacon Arthur Stock, the Honourable George Marsden Waterhouse, and William Thomas Locke Travers, Esquire, three of the members of the said Board of Governors, have retired from office, and are eligible for reappointment under the provisions of the said Act: And whereas by the said Act it is also provided that, on the annual retirement of the said three members, the successors of such retiring members shall be appointed by the Governor:
Now, therefore, I William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority in that behalf vested in me by the said Act, do hereby appoint
