Civil Service Senior Examination.

IN pursuance of regulations under “The Civil Service Reform Act, 1886,” notice is hereby given that for the Senior Examination of January, 1891, the period of literature will be the period from 1800 to 1850, and the special books will be Milton’s Samson Agonistes, and Shelley’s Prometheus Unbound.

Additional Rules made under “The Native Land Court Acts Amendment Act, 1889.”

WE, the undersigned, Worley Bassett Edwards, a Judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, and John Ormsby, the Commissioners appointed pursuant to the provisions of the twentieth section of “The Native Land Court Acts Amendment Act, 1889,” do hereby make the following rules pursuant to the powers vested in us by the said Act.

RULES.

  1. The latter part of Rule 9 of the rules made by the said Commissioners upon the 19th day of March, 1890, commencing with the words “and the last publication of such notice,” and ending with the last words of the said rule, is hereby revoked, and the said rule shall be read as if the words “and the last publication of such notice shall not be earlier than fifteen days nor later than eight days before the date appointed for the hearing of such application” had been originally omitted therefrom.

  2. The notices required by the said Rule 9 to be published in the Gazette and Kahiti shall be published prior to the day appointed for the hearing of the application in three successive issues of the Gazette and Kahiti, and the notices required by the said rule to be published in a newspaper shall be published in at least three issues of such paper at intervals of not less than six days, and the last of such notices shall be published not earlier than fifteen days nor later than three days before the day appointed for the hearing of such application. The provisions of this rule shall not apply to any applications lodged prior to the publication of these amended rules in the Gazette.

  3. Rule 24 of the rules made by the said Commissioners upon the 19th day of March, 1890, and the Second Schedule to the said rules, are hereby revoked.

  4. In lieu of the fees mentioned in the said Second Schedule to the said rules the fees mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall be paid by the persons at the times and in manner set out in the said Schedule hereto.

  5. The fees mentioned in the Schedule hereto as payable for every day occupied by the hearing beyond the first three days shall be primarily payable by the applicant as therein provided; but the Commissioners shall have power to remit the said fees or any part thereof, or to order that the same or any part thereof shall be paid by any objector, as they may consider just and equitable.

  6. Non-compliance with any of the rules made by the Commissioners shall not render any proceeding void; but, in the event of any such non-compliance, such proceedings may be amended, adjourned, or otherwise dealt with in such manner and on such terms as the Commissioners may deem just.


SCHEDULE.

6. For any certificate under section 27 At the time of issuing the same The party requiring the same £1 per cent. upon the value of the land or interest claimed, but in no case to be less than £5.
7. For any order not under section 27 At the time of issuing the same The person at whose instance the same is issued £1.
8. For any document requiring the signature of the Commissioners At the time of issuing the same The person at whose instance the same is issued 10s.
