Description of Land: This section is situated adjacent to
the Township of Richardson, in Wairoa Survey District, and

20 | IV. | Wairoa | .. 1,080 0 0 | 0 10 0 |

Description of Land: This section is situated in Block IV.,
Wairoa Survey District, inland of Momohaki Settlement,
and comprises long leading spurs, which are flat-topped in
some parts of the area; the gullies are deep, and the faces
very steep. The general character of the formation is sand-
stone and papa. The soil is good on the few flat-topped
spurs, fair on the slopes, and poor on the birch ridges. The
whole of the land is covered with forest; on the ridges it is
mainly birch, with rata in places. The bush on the slopes
includes hinau, manuka, &c.

The distance from Waverley and Waitotara is about ten
miles, nine miles of which is passable for drays, the last mile
being only a foot-track, which, however, being along a good
ridge, could easily be made passable for stock.

MAUNGAKARETU BLOCK.
UNSURVEYED LANDS.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Portions of Blocks IX., X., XIII., and XIV., Maunga-
karetu Survey District; 6,800 acres. Price, 12s. per acre.

Description of Land: The lands comprised in this block
consist of high hills with broken or easy faces, merging into
undulating and flat lands in some parts of the Mangamahu
and Turakina Valleys. The soil is generally of good loamy
quality. The forest includes rimu, rata, hinau, tawa,
tawhero, maire, matai, &c., with totara in places, sufficient
generally for homestead purposes; the undergrowth includes
karamu, konini, akeake, wharangi, mahoe, &c. The block
is well watered by the Mangamahu and Turakina Streams,
and is accessible by Hales's Murimotu track. Should the
proposed Main Trunk Railway—Marton-Te Awamutu—be
constructed, it will form the natural outlet to this block, as
the proposed railway-line is only twelve miles distant. The
distance from Wanganui is about fifty miles; there is a dray-
road for about twenty-eight miles, and a formed horse-road
to within about nine miles of the block. When cleared and
grassed the country would be well adapted for pastoral pur-
poses.

Selectors will have the privilege of choosing, subject to
reasonable restrictions, the precise locality and area of their
future holdings, with the additional advantage of securing
good fencing boundaries on ridges and spurs where available.

generally broken and undulating hills intersected by deep
gullies, which are gorgy in places, but there are flats in the
Kiwitea Valley. The block is well watered. With the ex-
