these sittings, on such days and at such hours as the Judge
may appoint.

If any of the days above appointed for sittings should be a
public holiday, the sittings will commence on the first day
after the day so appointed which is not a holiday.

Fixing Sittings of the Supreme Court in the Otago and
Southland Judicial District.

WE, four of the Judges of the Supreme Court of New
Zealand, in pursuance of the powers vested in us by
"The Supreme Court Act, 1882," hereby make the following
rules respecting the places and times for holding sittings of
the Supreme Court and sittings in Chambers, in the Judicial
District of Otago and Southland, for the year 1890:----

Sittings for the trial of criminal cases will be held at the
Supreme Courthouse, DUNEDIN, to commence on the follow-
ing days, at 10 a.m. :-

Monday, 10th March.
Monday, 2nd June.
Monday, 1st September.
Monday, 1st December.

Sittings for the trial of civil actions will be held at the
Supreme Courthouse, DUNEDIN, to commence on the follow-
ing days, at 10 a.m. :-

Monday, 10th February.
Monday, 24th March.
Monday, 9th June.
Monday, 4th August.
Monday, 15th September.
Monday, 24th November.

The trial of causes under "The Divorce and Matrimonial
Causes Act, 1867," may take place at any of the above-
mentioned sittings for the trial of civil actions.

Sittings of the Court in Banco will be held at the Court-
house, DUNEDIN, every Wednesday, except during vacation,
or in the absence of the Judge, or unless the Judge is
engaged on other business.

Sittings in Chambers will be held at the Judge's Chambers,
in the Courthouse, DUNEDIN, every Tuesday and Friday,
except during vacation, or in the absence of the Judge, or
unless the Judge is engaged on other business.

Sittings in Chambers at other times and during vacation,
in respect of urgent business, may be held at such times and
places as may suit the convenience of the Judge.

Sittings for the trial of criminal and civil cases, and of
causes under "The Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Act,
1867," will be held at the Courthouse, INVERCARGILL, to
commence on the following days, at 10 a.m.:-

Tuesday, 25th February.
Tuesday, 24th June.
Tuesday, 30th September.

Sittings for the trial of criminal and civil cases, and of
causes under "The Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Act,
1867," will be held at the Courthouse, OAMARU, to com-
mence on the following days, at 10 a.m. :--

Tuesday, 18th March.
Tuesday, 9th September.

Business in Chambers may be disposed of in the course of
these sittings, at such days and hours as the Judge may
appoint.

If any of the days above appointed for sittings should be a
public holiday, the sittings will commence on the first day
after the day so appointed which is not a holiday.

Notice of Hearing of Application for a Patent.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 5th December, 1889.

NO. 4107. - ALBERT LESLIE CAMPBELL, of 33, William
Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Merchant, has deposited

at this office a specification of an invention for an improved
anti-friction conveyor (being a communication to him from
Julius Schlesinger, of the Anti-friction Conveyor and Grinding
Machinery Company, Limited, Mark Lane, London, E.C.).

And I have appointed Thursday, the 21st day of August
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear
the said application and all objections thereto; and I
require all persons having an interest in opposing the
grant of such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the
6th day of August next, at this office, particulars in writing
of their objections to the said application, otherwise they
will be precluded from urging the same.

this office a specification of an invention for improvements
in apparatus for delivering prepaid goods (being a communi-
cation to him from Stephan Praschl, of Paris, France).

No. 4108. - ROBERT ORR, of the Lower Hutt, Wellington,
New Zealand, Law Clerk, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for an improved machine for
dressing New Zealand flax and other fibrous material, to be
known as "Orr's Flax-dresser."

No. 4109. - WILLIAM HENRY HAMILTON, of White's Bay,
Marlborough, New Zealand, Telegraphist, has deposited at
this office a specification of an invention for washing, scutch-
ing, or hackling flax.

No. 4110. - JOHN DRUMMOND PINKERTON, of Lower Hutt,
Wellington, New Zealand, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for an apparatus for sinking
pipes or iron rods for artesian wells or other purposes.

No. 4111. - PHILIPP WALDMANN and GEORGE LONGHURST,
both of Wellington, New Zealand, have deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for improvements in
apparatus for extinguishing fire in buildings.

No. 4112. - DANIEL WHITBURN, of Morrinsville, Auckland,
New Zealand, Platelayer, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for Whitburn's patent tubular
keys.

And I have appointed Thursday, the 6th day of March
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear
the said applications and all objections thereto; and I re-
quire all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of
any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 19th day
of February next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they
will be precluded from urging the same.

New Zealand, has deposited at this office a specification of
an invention for a vessel for filtering water, &c., to be called
"Kelly's Antiseptic Filter."

No. 4115. - GEORGE MACFARLANE, of Paterangi, Waipa,
Auckland, New Zealand, Farmer, has deposited at this office
a specification of an invention to be called "The Protean
Potato-plough."

NO. 4116. - ALWIN FISCHER, Plumber, and JAMES ELLIS
HALE, Ironmonger, both of North Adelaide, South Australia,
have deposited at this office a specification of an invention
for a combined broom-preserver and dust-pan.

And I have appointed Tuesday, the 11th day of March
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 24th day of
February next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they
will be precluded from urging the same.
