Notice to Mariners, No. 27 of 1889.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the
Portmaster, Brisbane, Queensland, are published for
general information.

INNER ROUTE.—g REEF AND 6-FATHOM SHOAL, ABREAST
CAPE FLATTERY.

THE following information respecting the position of g Reef,
abreast Cape Flattery, has been supplied by Lieutenant Pirie,
R.N., commanding H.M.S. surveying vessel "Paluma:"--
g Reef is 4 cables long, east and west, and 2½ cables wide.
It is steep-to all round, and has a small sandbank near its
west extreme, which dries 6ft. at low-water springs.

From the sandbank Cape Flattery bears N. 83° W. 13·3
miles.

As marked on the chart, g Reef does not exist. Also--
A coral shoal, with 6 fathoms of water over it at low water,
lying to the N.E. of the Two Isles. It is about 8 cables
long N.E. and S.W., and from its shoalest part Cape Flat-
tery bears N. 76 W. 7·65 miles.

INNER ROUTE.—SHOAL OFF POINT LOOKOUT.

NOTICE is hereby given that the shoal-ground to the north-
wards of Point Lookout, having been examined by Lieutenant
G. C. Frederick, R.N., Commanding H.M. Surveying ship
"Dart," a shoal patch, with 1 fathom at low-water springs,
has been found to lie N. 45° W. two miles from the summit
of the point.

This patch is steep-to on the north-eastern side, dropping
suddenly from 2 to 7 fathoms, while to the north-westward
the water deepens more gradually.

The beacon upon No. 1 Reef (sand), in line with the sum-
mit of Cape Flattery S. 38° E., leads clear to the eastward of
the shoal-ground; while Round Hill on with the "End of
Range" S. 82° W. passes 4 cables north of the spit.

Department of Ports and Harbours, Melbourne, is
published for general information.

SUBMARINE CABLE.—ENTRANCE TO PORT PHILLIP.

PILOTS, masters of vessels, and others are hereby informed
that a submarine electric cable has been laid between Swan
Island and Observatory Point, Point Nepean, crossing Port
Phillip Bay from Swan Beacon by a line to the Pope's Eye
Fort, and from thence to Observatory Point.

Caution: Mariners, boatmen, and others are therefore
warned not to anchor within 4 cables on either side of a
supposed line from Swan Beacon, Swan Island, viâ Pope's
Eye Fort, to Observatory Point. This notice will form the
subject of a port regulation, the infringement of which will
render the person in fault liable to a penalty of not less than
£5 and not exceeding £100.

Notification of Resignation of Seat in the House of Repre-
sentatives for the Electoral District of East Coast.

IN compliance with the provisions of the sixty-first section
of "The Regulation of Elections Act, 1881," I hereby
notify that

ANDREW GRAHAM, Esquire,
has resigned his seat in the House of Representatives for the
Electoral District of East Coast, and that his letter of resig-
nation was received by me on the 22nd day of October, 1889,
and that the said seat is vacant by reason of such resigna-
tion.

NO. 4011.—WILLIAM FREDERICK JUDSON, of Auckland,
New Zealand, Settler, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for an improved disinfectant, to
be called "Judson's Patent Disinfectant."

No. 4012.—FRANK COXON, of Christchurch, New Zealand,
Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for a feed water-heater and fuel-economizer, to be
called "The Zealandia Feed Water-heater and Fuel-econo-
mizer."

No. 4014.—ALICE MARY MCLEOD, Of Valley Road, Mount
Roskill, Auckland, New Zealand, Lady, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for McLeod's patent
safety and non-fouling flax-scutcher.

No. 4015.—JOHN SANDS, of Harris Street, Pyrmont,
Sydney, New South Wales, Engineer, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for improvements in ore-
pulverisers or reducers.

No. 4016.—CHARLES SMITH, of Auckland, New Zealand,
Perambulator Manufacturer, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for a perambulator, to be called
"Smith's Patent Oscillating Perambulator."

No. 4017.—WILLIAM HENRY BINSTED, of Sydney, New
South Wales, Architect, has deposited at this office a speci-
fication of an invention for an improved method of amalga-
mating finely-divided auriferous and argentiferous materials,
and improved apparatus therefor.

And I have appointed Tuesday, the 14th day of January
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 30th day of
December next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they
will be precluded from urging the same.

near Sydney, New South Wales, Engineer, has de-
posited at this office a specification of an invention for
improvements in the manufacture of compressed leather.

No. 4019.—HART UDY, Blacksmith, ARTHUR COMETTI,
Coachbuilder, and JAMES CURTIS, Land Agent, all of
Petone, Wellington, New Zealand, have deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for digging, sorting,
and bagging potatoes, turnips, mangols, &c., and for gather-
ing stones and stumps, to be called "The Universal Potato-
digger, sorter, and -bagger."

No. 4020.—WILLIAM HODGE, of Timaru, Canterbury, New
Zealand, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for a railway stop-block, named "Hodge's Patent
Stop-block."
