Notice of Hearing of Applications for Patents.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 18th September, 1889.

Nº. 3956. - WILLIAM EARNSHAW, of Cutten Street, South
Dunedin, New Zealand, Brass-finisher, has deposited
at this office a specification of an invention for Earnshaw's
patent gold- and pyrites-saving machine.

Nº. 3957. - RICHARD CARR, of Patterson Street, Auckland,
New Zealand, French Polisher, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for the protection of piano-
fronts, to be called "The Patent Piano Foot-shield."

Nº. 3958. - ROBERT MEACLEM, of Ashburton, New Zealand,
Millwright, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for Meaclem's improved self-feeder for threshing-
machines.

And I have appointed Wednesday, the 11th day of December
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 26th day of
November next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they
will be precluded from urging the same.

Street, Echuca, Victoria, Mechanical Engineer, has
deposited at this office a specification of an invention of an
improved horse-shoe.

And I have appointed Thursday, the 12th day of June
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear
the said application and all objections thereto; and I
require all persons having an interest in opposing the
grant of such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 28th
day of May next, at this office, particulars in writing of
their objections to the said application, otherwise they will
be precluded from urging the same.

REMARKS.
First few days fine, with fresh N.W. wind; from the 5th to
the 14th showery, with S.E. and S.W. winds; the maximum
rainfall for month recorded on 13th, 770in.; remainder of
calm in early part of day, and bright, cold weather and occa-
sional light rain; snow on hills on 14th hail on 7th fog
on 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd. Maximum temperature in
shade, 58.5; minimum, 33.0. Mean temperature of dew-
point, 39.5; mean humidity, 76.

Crown Lands Notices.

Tenders for Occupation for Grazing Purposes, Canterbury
Land District.

Crown Lands Office,
Christchurch, 3rd September, 1889.

N OTICE is hereby given that tenders for the occupation,
for grazing purposes only, of the under-mentioned
land will be received up to 5 p.m., on Wednesday, the 2nd
October, 1889:-

Crown land, about two miles west of Rolleston Railway-
station; area, 155 acres 1 rood 27 perches; upset annual
rental, £7 15s.

Every tender must be accompanied by marked cheque or
post-office order for six months' rent, at the rate tendered,
up to the 1st April, 1890.

The license will be for a yearly tenancy for five years,
subject to six months' notice, should the land be required
by Government.
