THE following special order, made by the Masterton Road
Board, is published in accordance with “The Road
Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER.

THAT, for the purpose of securing payment of the sum of
£50, granted to the Board, under “The Government Loans
to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for forming and metalling a
branch road at Upper Plain, in No. 2 Subdivision of the
Masterton Road District, a special rate of nine-twenty-fourths
of a penny in the pound be made and levied on the following
sections in the Masterton Small-farm Block, viz.: Subsections
50, 3, 4, part Section 61, part Section 51, Subsection 8, parts
Sections 51, 6, part Section 51, Subsection 7, parts Sections
5, 8, part Section 51, Subsection D, part Section 50, Sub-
sections 2, 4, parts Sections 50, 51E, 50, 51, Section 51, Sub-
section 6, part Section 50, Subsection 2, part Section 51,
Section 52.

Such special rate shall be an annually-recurring rate, and
shall be paid in two half-yearly instalments for twenty-six
years, the first half-yearly payment to be made on the 1st
day of January, 1890, and on the same dates in each following year
until the debt is liquidated.

I hereby certify that the above special order has been duly
made, as required by section 75 of “The Road Boards Act,
1882.”

Notice to Mariners.—No. 23 of 1889.

EXHIBITION OF REVOLVING WHITE LIGHT ON CUVIER
ISLAND, ENTRANCE TO Hauraki GULF.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 2nd September, 1889.

WITH reference to the preliminary Notices Nos. 9 and
20 of 1889, issued by this department on the 3rd
April and 7th August last, it is hereby notified that, on and
after Sunday, the 22nd day of September, 1889, a light will
be exhibited from the lighthouse which has been erected on
Cuvier Island, the position and characteristics of which are
as follow:—

The lighthouse is situated on the eastern extremity of
Cuvier Island, which lies off the south-eastern entrance to
Hauraki Gulf, east coast of the North Island of New Zea-
land.

The tower is 50ft. in height from base to top of the lan-
tern, is built of iron, and painted white.

The light will be a FIRST ORDER REVOLVING WHITE LIGHT,
visible all round the horizon as far as the land will allow.
It will attain its greatest brilliancy every thirty seconds.
The light is elevated 390ft. above the sea, and, allowing
15ft. for the height of the eye, will be seen at a distance of
about 26 nautic miles in clear weather, and at lesser dis-
tances according to the state of the atmosphere.

Vessels should not round Cape Colville with the light open.

Approving and Appointing a Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this
purpose vested by “The Customs Laws Consolidation
Act, 1882,” I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do
hereby approve and appoint the under-mentioned warehouse to
be a warehouse for the reception of goods under bond,
namely,—

Port of Wellington.

Top floor of a three-storied wooden building, roofed with
iron, situated in Featherston Street, Allotment No. 53, City
of Wellington, to be known as

CASTENDYK'S BOND.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this 31st day
of August, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-nine.
