"THE Crown and Native Lands Rating Act, 1882," and
the Amendments thereof.

To each and every the owner or owners of land described in
the substituted valuation-rolls of Native lands supplied
to the local bodies, the names of which are set forth in the
Schedule hereunder, under the provisions of the above
Acts and all other Acts affecting the same or relating
thereto.

WHEREAS demand having been made to me, the under-
signed Colonial Treasurer of the Colony of New Zealand, in
accordance with the provisions of "The Crown and Native
Lands Rating Act, 1882," by or on behalf of the said local
bodies, for payment of the rates appearing to be payable
under or by virtue of the said rolls for the year ending the
31st March, 1890:

Notice is hereby given to you and each and every of you
that rolls of Native lands are now deposited at the offices of
the said several local bodies, which said rolls are in the
Maori language, and show the rateable value of the Native
lands therein mentioned or described.

Notice to Mariners, No. 21 of 1889.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Auckland Harbour Board, is published for general
information.

APPROACHES TO HOBSON STREET WHARF AND QUAY STREET
JETTY No. 2.

NOTICE is hereby given that a channel has been dredged up
to Hobson Street Wharf, having 18ft. depth of water at low-
water ordinary spring-tides, and from 18ft. to 12ft. alongside
the wharf (berthage on the eastern side only). The channel
lies north and south, and is about 250ft. in width, abreast of
the inner conical buoy, and 100ft. at end of wharf.

Notice is also given that a channel has been dredged up to
Quay Street Jetty No. 2, having from 20ft. to 18ft. depth of
water at low-water ordinary spring-tides, and from 18ft. to
12ft. along the eastern side of the jetty, and 18ft. on the
western side of it, to within 50ft. of Quay Street. The
channel is about 350ft. in width abreast of No. 2 eastern tee
of Queen Street Wharf, narrowing to 270ft. at outer end of
jetty, and 90ft. on either side of it.

The attention of masters of vessels is directed to clauses
32 and 50 of the by-laws of the Auckland Harbour Board in
reference to vessels anchoring in the fairway of any channel
or approach to any wharf, and applications for berths at any
wharf before vessels are berthed.

Notice to Mariners, No. 22 of 1889.

NAPIER HARBOUR.—BUOYS PLACED TO MARK FOUNDATIONS,
ETC., OF BREAKWATER.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 21st August, 1889.

THE Napier Harbour Board have notified that on Monday
next, the 26th instant, a buoy, painted black, will be
placed near the Auckland Rock, with the Napier Bluff bear-
ing south, distant about four and a half cables; also that on
the same date a black buoy will be placed about four cables
from the bluff, with the bluff bearing south-west. To keep
clear of the breakwater-foundations vessels should pass
these buoys to the northward, the port hand, going in.

Bearings are magnetic.

Alterations and Additions to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and
Charges in force on the New Zealand Railways.

THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in exercise
and pursuance of the powers conferred by "The Go-
vernment Railways Act, 1887," do hereby make the following
alterations in and additions to the scale of fares, rates, and
charges on the New Zealand Railways, to come into force on
and after the 26th day of August, 1889:—

PART I.—PASSENGERS.

SCHOOL-BOARDERS.

Tickets at single fares for the double journey, available
for return for two months, will be issued to school-boarders,
not exceeding eighteen years of age, returning home for
