Not exceeding 30 acres, £6.
Exceeding 30 and up to 50 acres, 3s. 6d. per acre, but
not less than £6.
Exceeding 50 and up to 100 acres, 3s. per acre, but not
less than £8 15s.
Exceeding 100 and up to 200 acres, 2s. 6d. per acre, but
not less than £15.
Exceeding 200 and up to 300 acres, 2s. per acre, but not
less than £25.
Exceeding 300 and up to 500 acres, 1s. 8d. per acre, but
not less than £30.
Exceeding 500 and up to 1,000 acres, 1s. 4d. per acre,
but not less than £41 10s.
Exceeding 1,000 and up to 2,000 acres, 1s. per acre, but
not less than £66 10s.
For the survey of any area of rural land, being open land,
the scale of charges shall be two-thirds the foregoing rates.
(3.) In case any question shall arise as to what lands are
included in the expression "open land," the same shall be
settled by the Surveyor-General, whose decision shall be con-
clusive.
(4.) All such charges shall, at the time of making applica-
tion to purchase or select such land, be paid by the applicant
to a Receiver of Land Revenue for the district in which the
land is situated, and shall be dealt with and disposed of in
accordance with the regulations from time to time in force
under "The Land Act, 1885," or its amendments relating to
deposits for surveys.
(5.) Where the Commissioner declines, under section 18 of
"The Land Act Amendment Act, 1887," to allow an appli-
cant to have the land applied for surveyed at his own
expense, then the scale of charges imposed by these regula-
tions shall apply to any such case.
(6.) Where application is made to select unsurveyed rural
lands upon deferred payment or on perpetual lease, the
survey charges shall be made on the scale hereby imposed,
or the Commissioner may allow the applicant to have the
land surveyed at his own expense, as provided by section 18
of "The Land Act Amendment Act, 1887;" and in either
of such cases the cost of survey shall be deducted from the
cash value of the land so selected.
Should the land so selected be reserved or withdrawn from
sale, the applicant shall be repaid the cost of the survey
according to the scale imposed by these regulations, or that
may have been paid by him if the survey has been made
under section 18 aforesaid; but, should the applicant in any
case refuse or delay to complete such selection after survey,
he shall forfeit the cost of such survey.

Rural Lands in the Hawke's Bay Land District open for
Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the third section of "The Land
Act Amendment Act, 1887" (hereinafter termed "the said
Act"), I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of
the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is
provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated
in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection,
after the lapse of a period of forty-five days from the date of
the first public notification hereof, in the manner and upon
the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at the price
per acre respectively set opposite such land in the said
Schedule.

SCHEDULE.
HAWKE'S BAY LAND DISTRICT.
First-class Land, Waipawa County.

This section is situated between Tukituki and Waipawa
Rivers; forest land, well watered; distant from Waipawa
Railway-station about twenty miles by a fair road.

Second-class Land, Cook County.

Description of Land: Nearly all bush, good soil; about
forty-five miles from Gisborne; Ormond-Waiapu Road runs
through western corner; formed as cart-road for thirty-five
miles.

Description of Land: Greater part open, good soil; is
situate about a mile and a half to the east of the Ormond-
Waiapu Road, about forty miles from Gisborne; it is about
two miles north of the Tolago-Arakihi Road, and about twenty
miles from Tolago Bay.

Description of Land: About half bush, good soil; situate
about forty-three miles from Gisborne, on the Ormond-
Waiapu Road, which runs through the block.

Description of Land: Nearly all bush, good soil; situate
about thirty miles from Gisborne, and about twelve inland
from Tolago; about three or four miles south of Tolago-
Arakihi Road; at present not connected by surveyed road.

Description of Land: Part bush, broken, good soil;
situate about twenty miles south of Gisborne, and is partially
bounded by the Gisborne-Mahia Road; surveyed but un-
formed.

Wairoa County.

Description of Land: Part bush, broken, good soil;
situate about thirty miles south of Gisborne; the Gisborne-
Mahia Road, a bridle-track unformed, runs through this
block; inaccessible from the coast.

Cook County (Unsurveyed).

Description of Land: All forest, rather broken, good
soil; situate about twenty-five miles north of Gisborne, and
about eight miles inland from Pakarae. Access to Section 1,
Block I., Whangara, will probably be up the Waiomoku
Valley, and that to Section 1, Block II., Whangara, will be
from Pakarae.

Description of Land: Low hills, nearly all bush, tawa,
matai, &c.; good soil; no access; is situate about a mile
from the Awanui-Kawakawa inland track, and is about six
miles from Awanui.
