Description of Land: The second-class land in the Huiroa
and Ngatimaru Districts is broken, about one-third agricul-
tural, remainder good pastoral land, soil loamy, good open
bush, tawa, matai, rimu, &c., well watered, accessible by
road.

this eighth day of August, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-nine.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, County of Ashburton.

T HE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Asburton County Council, is published in accordance
with "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

In the matter of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886," and
in the matter of a proposal of the Ashburton County
Council to raise a loan of £5,000 for the purpose of pro-
curing a water-supply, and matters incidental thereto, for
the Rakaia Irrigation District.
PURSUANT to the provisions of the above-mentioned Act, I
hereby notify that the following is the result of the poll in
connection with the above-mentioned proposal, which was
taken on the 6th day of August, 1889:—
Total number of votes exercisable, 842. Total number of
votes recorded in favour of loan, 367; total number of votes
recorded against loan, 10.
As the above-mentioned number of votes recorded in favour
of the loan—namely, 367—is less than half the total number
of votes exercisable, I hereby declare the resolution to be
rejected.

Application for Registration of a Trade Mark.

N OTICE is hereby given that Messrs. KING, WALKER,
& Co., of Auckland, New Zealand, have applied on
behalf of JOHN ROBERTSON & SON, of 6, Candle Lane, Sea-
gate, Dundee, Scotland, Whisky Exporters, to register, under
"The Trade Marks Act, 1866," the trade mark of which the
following is a description:--
Description of Trade Mark.
A triangle out of the sides of which are semicircular lobes
covering half the side, leaving a fourth from each point of
the triangle only visible. In the lobes are the letters "J"
on left, "R" on right, "D" on base. Within the corners of
triangle are circles or nail-holes, one in each; in the centre
of triangle a rose-star. A marginal line follows the shape of
the figure.
Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade
Mark shall apply.

Wellington, New Zealand, Merchants, have applied

A label divided into three panels. Up the left side and
across the top of the centre one is the representation of a
bamboo, and on the face of it the words "Pure Ceylon Tea,"
"The Uplands Brand," and either "Pekoe, 1lb. net," or
"Pekoe Souchong, 1lb. net"; on the right panel the words
"Packed in Ceylon;" and on the left one the words
"Guaranteed Pure Ceylon Tea."
Description of Trade Mark No. 2.
A label divided into three panels. In the centre one are
the words "Ceylon Tea," ," "Ruanwella Brand, 1lb. net;" in
the right one the words "Packed in Ceylon;" and in the left
one the words "Guaranteed Pure Ceylon Tea."
Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade
Marks shall apply.
