[TRANSLATION.]

THE Crown and Native Lands Rating Act, 1882,” and the Amendments thereof.

To each and every the owner or owners of land described in the substituted valuation-rolls of Native lands supplied to the local bodies, the names of which are set forth in the Schedule hereunder, under the provisions of the above Acts and all other Acts affecting the same or relating thereto.

WHEREAS demand having been made to me, the under-signed Colonial Treasurer of the Colony of New Zealand, in accordance with the provisions of “The Crown and Native Lands Rating Act, 1882,” by or on behalf of the said local bodies, for payment of the rates appearing to be payable under or by virtue of the said rolls for the year ended the 31st March, 1888:

Notice is hereby given to you and each and every of you that rolls of Native lands are now deposited at the offices of the said several local bodies, which said rolls are in the Maori language, and show the rateable value of the Native lands therein mentioned or described.

And you and each and every of you, the owners of the said lands, are hereby required and directed to pay the said rates on or before the 15th August, 1889, such payment to be made by you at the office of the local body in whose district the lands affected are respectively comprised, and as noted in the said Schedule.

Fixing Rent and Charges in Queen’s Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this purpose vested by “The Customs Laws Consolidation Act, 1882,” I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do hereby fix the amount of rent and charges in respect of goods deposited in the Queen’s Warehouse at New Plymouth; to take effect from the first day of September next, viz.:

By-laws for New Zealand Railways.

THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in exercise and pursuance of the powers conferred by “The Government Railways Act, 1887,” do hereby make the following by-laws (in addition to by-laws published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 89, of 26th October, 1882), that is to say,—

  1. No person having paid the fare for a ticket entitling him to travel by an excursion train or any other specified train shall be entitled to travel by any train other than that in respect of which such fare was paid without previously taking out the proper ticket and paying the proper fare therefor respectively.

  2. No person holding a ticket issued for travelling for certain specific purposes shall use the ticket for travelling for any other purpose. Any such ticket found to be wrongly used will be forfeited and its further use stopped.

  3. No person having used a ticket for any part of the route for which it is issued may afterwards use it for travelling on any preceding part of such route.

  4. Any person committing a breach of either of the foregoing by-laws shall be liable on conviction to a penalty not exceeding £10.

The common seal of the New Zealand Railway Commissioners was hereunto affixed, this twenty-sixth day of July, (L.S.) one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, in the presence of—

Alterations and Additions to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in force on the New Zealand Railways.

THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in exercise and pursuance of the powers conferred by “The Government Railways Act, 1887,” do hereby make the following alterations in and additions to the scale of fares, rates, and charges on the New Zealand Railways, to come into force on and after the 5th day of August, 1889:—

PART IV.—LOCAL RATES.

HURUNUI-BLUFF SECTION.

Timber from saw-mills in Southland, consigned to Winchester or Orari, will be charged 9d. per 100 superficial feet less than the classified rates.
