Description of Trade Mark No. 3.
Three Imperial crowns, two horizontal and one on top,
but in centre of the two, on a green field within a circle,
under which is a double scroll, partly on the field, with the
word "Crown" on the upper portion of the scroll and
"Brand" on the under portion, with foliage springing from
each side of the scroll.

Description of Trade Mark No. 4.
A grasshopper encircled by a flag-band, having the words
"La Cigale" in the middle of the band.

Description of Trade Mark No. 5.
The words "The Eclipse Brand," under which is a circle
having a starred and rayed outer edge, with a black ball
having the word "Eclipse" on a white belt in its centre;
the ball placed three quarters off the surface of the circle;
the lower limb of the ball slightly lower than that of the
starred circle.

Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade
Marks shall apply.
Nos. 1, 2, and 3. Tea.
No. 4. Gloves.
No. 5. Drapery, men's and boys' clothing, and groceries of
all kinds.

NOTICE is hereby given that F. W. MCGILL AND CO.,
of Dunedin and Invercargill, New Zealand, Drapers,
have applied to register, under "The Trade Marks Act, 1866,"
the trade mark of which the following is a description:—

Description of Trade Mark.
A triangular-shaped figure formed of double lines. Be-
tween these lines are the words "The Gladstone Mole,
manufactured by F. W. McGill & Co., Invercargill." Within
the figure is the representation of a man.

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade
Mark shall apply.

Civil Service Senior Examination.

IN pursuance of regulations under "The Civil Service
Reform Act, 1886," notice is hereby given that for the
Senior Examination of January, 1890, the period of litera-
ture will be the latter half of the Eighteenth Century, and
the special books will be Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice
and Goldsmith's Vicar of Wakefield.

CUSTOMS. In exercise of the powers in me for this
purpose vested by "The Customs Laws Consolidation
Act, 1882," I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do
hereby approve and appoint the under-mentioned warehouse
to be a warehouse for the reception of goods under bond,
namely, —

Port of Dunedin.
Portion of a brick building roofed with slate, situate on
Section 28, Harbour Board Block No. 1, Crawford Street,
City of Dunedin, to be known as

Revocation of Appointment of Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS. In exercise of the authority in me for this

reception and security of goods entered to be warehoused
without payment of duty upon the first entry thereof,

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Marine Board, Hobart, Tasmania, is published for
general information.

EXHIBITION OF A FIXED LIGHT ON MERSEY BLUFF,
NORTH-WEST COAST OF TASMANIA.

WITH reference to the preliminary notice issued by this
Board, dated the 12th October, 1888, it is hereby notified
that, on and after the 2nd day of September, 1889, from
sunset to sunrise, a light will be exhibited from the lighthouse
which has been erected on Mersey Bluff, the characteristics
of which are as follows: —

The lighthouse is situated in latitude 41° 9' 40" S.,
longitude 146° 22' 20" E. (approximate).

The light will be 71ft. above the sea-level, and will be
visible, at the height of 10ft., thirteen miles in clear weather.

The light will be fourth order dioptric, fixed, and will show
seaward, bright, over an unbroken arc of 117°, and a red ray
will be exhibited at either extremity of the bright arc. This
will warn mariners when they are within one mile of the
outer extreme of the Horseshoe Reef to the eastward, and
the outer extreme of Rocky Reef, off Don Bluff, to the west-
ward.

Engineer Surveyor and Inspector of Machinery.

Wellington, N.Z., 24th June, 1889.

NOTICE is hereby given that applications will be received
at this office for the appointment of Engineer Sur-
veyor and Inspector of Machinery attached to this depart-
ment.

Applicants to be eligible for this appointment must have
served an apprenticeship as an engineer or iron shipbuilder,
must be not less than twenty-five and not more than forty-
five years of age, and must have served at sea in charge of
engines for at least five years. They must also, at the time
of application, possess a first-class certificate of competency
as engineer. They must forward a medical certificate showing
that they are in good health and of a robust constitution.

Applicants must give full particulars of their service on
shore and at sea, and forward copies of any letters of recom-
mendation, testimonials, discharges, and certificates that
they may possess.

The salary payable will be at the rate of £300 per annum,
increasing by £5 a year to £325. The selected applicant
will be required to undertake the duties of Engineer Sur-
veyor, Inspector of Machinery, Examiner of Engineers, and,
generally, such work as he may be required to perform by
this department.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of "The
Civil Service Reform Act, 1886."

Applications will be received up to the 25th July, and the
selected candidate will be required to commence his duties
about the middle of August next.
