West Otamakapua Block.
Description of Land: These sections comprise about 8,000
acres, and are situated fronting and adjacent to the Rangiti-
kei River, in the western part of the Otamakapua Block,
between Te Rewa and the Sandon Special-settlement Asso-
ciation Block, inland of the Kiwi tea district, about twenty-
four miles from Feilding, the access being either by the
Rangitikei River-bed or by the dray-road to Williamson's,
and thence by a horse-road which leads through the West
Waitapu Block, and extends north and south for some dis-
tance within this block. The area comprises extensive flats
in the Rangitikei Valley, and good undulating and hilly
lands at the back; the soil varies from good to first class;
most of the flat being alluvial deposit, and some of the hills
are covered with good loamy soil. The whole area, except
some small clearings at the south-west corner, is covered by
a mixed forest, including tawa, rimu, matai, kahikatea,
miro, hinau, rata, mahoe, titoki, manuka, &c., and a few
totara trees; the underscrub is generally dense, and consists
of kawakawa, supplejacks, karamu, rangiora, horopito, and
other common shrubs. The block is generally well watered
by the Rangitikei River, the Mangatutu, Mangapipi, and
several other small streams. The elevation of the country
ranges from about 300ft. to 1,000ft. above sea-level, and the
lay of the country is admirable. As the climate is equable
and favourable, the capabilities of the land for all purposes
of agriculture, dairy-farming, fruit-growing, &c., can hardly
be exaggerated.
Intending selectors will find guides at Mr. Mountfort's
survey camp on the block, and a tent will be pitched for
those who may wish to devote more than a day to the
inspection of the sections.

South-west Pukekoi Block—continued
Description of Land: These sections comprise about 9,300
acres, and are situated south-east of the Township of Pahia-
tua, and adjoin the Tiraumea-Makuri and Mangaone-Tirau-
mea Blocks. The access to the sections on the north is by
way of the Tiraumea and Toritea Roads, and to the southern
sections by way of the Hawera and Tane Roads. The land
is covered with forest—that is, the Makuri and Tiraumea
valleys, and on the lower hills is generally heavy, and
includes tawa, rata, hinau, and rimu, &c., whilst on the
higher lands the bush is generally light, and includes mahoe,
konini, rangiora, with rata, &c., and occasional totara trees.
The soil is good throughout, the formation being limestone
and papa. Mount Marchant is a limestone hill, and the
limestone crops out on most of the sections in that vicinity.
Pori Road runs along a limestone table-land, which falls
away to the Tiraumea River on the west, and extends to the
Pukekoi Range on the east. The sections are generally well
watered in the lower lands, and it is probable that permanent
water can be obtained on the high limestone hills from
springs and creeks. The land comprised is all well adapted
for pastoral purposes, and on most of the sections there will
be found convenient sites for homestead buildings, &c.
Guides will be found at Mr. Greville's survey camp on the
block, and a tent will be pitched for the convenience of in-
tending selectors.

*Subject to right of road.
Description of Land: These sections comprise part of the
Pukekoi country; the area of the block is about 11,500 acres,
and includes the lands along both banks of the Makuri
River, recently sold, and on the eastward to the
top of the Pukekoi Range; the block is intersected by
Climie's Tiraumea-Aohanga Road-line, which will prove in
the future an important main line of communication
between the East Coast and the Forty-mile Bush Districts;
there are branch roads also towards the Upper Makuri,
Alfredton, and Woodville, and at an important centre in the
block a reserve has been set aside as a site for a township,
which is about sixteen miles from Pahiatua. The country
comprises flats, undulating, and high hills; the general
elevation above the sea varies from about 800ft. to 2,600ft.
on the Pukekoi Range; the formation is limestone and papa;
the soil is good throughout; the country south of the Makuri
apparently being similar in formation to the well-known
Maungaraki and Rangitumeu limestone hills; the soil on
many of the sections is deep and rich. The forest growth on
the block includes tawa, rata, rimu, pukatea, kahikatea, &c.,
with generally sufficient totara trees for homestead pur-
poses; the scrub growth is indicative of good land. The
bush on the limestone lands is generally exceptionally light.
The block is well watered, and, as it falls within the belt of
country between the Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa Plains,
which has a good average rainfall, there seems nothing
lacking to make the lands eminently suited for occupation
by farmers, graziers, gardeners, and those seeking to esta-
blish a home in a rich, picturesque country, with a salubrious
climate.
Intending selectors who wish to inspect the block can ride
from Pahiatua via the Toritea Road to the Tiraumea River,
and arrangements will be made by the District Surveyor,
Mr. J. D. Climie, to send a guide to show them over the
sections. A tent will be pitched at the Makuri Township
South-west Pukekoi Block.
