Creating New Districts under "The Native Committees
Act, 1883."

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by Proclamation issued under "The Native
Committees Act, 1883" (hereinafter termed "the
said Act"), bearing date the sixteenth day of January, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, and published in
the New Zealand Gazette of the twenty-fourth day of
January in the same year, certain districts therein described
were declared to be Native districts under and for the pur-
poses of the said Act: And whereas it is expedient to revoke
the said Proclamation so far as regards the Hawke's Bay
District therein mentioned and described, and to create two
new districts as hereinafter set forth:

Now, therefore, I, the Right Honourable William Hillier,
Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested
in me by the said Act, do hereby revoke the said in part
recited Proclamation of the sixteenth day of January, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, so far as such
Proclamation affects to constitute Hawke's Bay District as
therein described a district for the purposes of the said Act,
and do hereby proclaim and declare that the several districts
or areas described in the Schedule hereto shall be and the
same are hereby proclaimed to be Native districts for the
purposes of the said Act.

And in further pursuance and exercise of the said power
and authority I do hereby appoint the Resident Magistrate
whose name and office are set forth respectively opposite the
description of each district in the Schedule hereto (and who
has jurisdiction therein respectively) to be the Returning
Officer or person to take steps for the election of a Native
Committee in such district in the manner prescribed by and
for the purposes of the said Act.

District. Names and Offices of
Returning Officers.

HAWKE'S BAY.
All that area in the Counties of
Wairoa, Hawke's Bay, Waipawa,
and Patangata, bounded towards
the north-east by the Wairoa Na-
tive Committee District, herein-
after described; towards the
south-east generally by the sea;
towards the south-west and north-
west by the Wellington Provincial
District to the 39th parallel of
latitude; thence towards the
north by the 39th parallel of
latitude to a point where it is
crossed by the Waipunga River;

and thence again towards the
north-west by a right line drawn
in the direction of Lottin Point
to the Wairoa Native Committee
District aforesaid.

WAIROA.
All that area in the Counties of
Wairoa and Whakatane, bounded
towards the north-west by a right
line drawn from a point where
the Waipunga River crosses the
39th parallel of latitude in the
direction of Lottin Point until it
meets the production of a right
line drawn from Whareongaonga
on the East Coast to the northern-
most arm of Waikare-iti; thence
towards the north-east by a right
line to Whareongaonga aforesaid;
thence towards the east and south
generally by the sea to the Wai-
papa Stream; thence towards the
south-west by a right line running
in the direction of a point where a
right line joining Tatarakino and
Tawhiwhau Mountains is inter-
sected by a right line drawn from
the Rangitaiki River where the
Taupo-Napier Road crosses it to
the most northerly point of Wai-
karemoana, as far as the aforesaid
line drawn between the 39th
parallel of latitude and Lottin
Point.

Onslow in the County of Salop; Viscount Cranley,
of Cranley in the County of Surrey; Baron
Onslow, of Onslow in the County of Salop, and
of West Clandon in the County of Surrey; Baron
Cranley, of Imbercourt; Baronet; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council;
Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished
Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Go-
vernor and Commander-in-Chief in and over
Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same;
and issued under the Seal of the said Colony,
at the Government House, at Wellington, this
fourth day of June, in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine.
