N O. 3659.—RICHARD COBDEN EASBY, of Tory Street,
Wellington, New Zealand, Blind-maker, has deposited
at this office a specification of an invention for a self-acting
cord or strap-holder or check action, to be called "Easby's
Simplicity Cord-holder."
No. 3660.—MEPHAN FERGUSON, of Carlton Foundry, Lei-
cester Street, Carlton, Victoria, Engineer, has deposited at
this office a specification of an invention for an improved
pipe-coupling.
No. 3661.—CHARLES HERBERT EYRES, of Sturt Street,
Ballarat, Victoria, Ironmonger, and WILLIAM SARGEANT
SARGEANT, of Lydiard Street, Ballarat aforesaid, Builder, have
deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an
improved fastener for clipping together the ends of belts,
bands, or straps (being a communication from the inventor,
Thomas Charles Sargeant, of Cattle Market Road, North-
ampton, England, Engineer).
No. 3662.—AUSTIN DOHERTY, of Fernhill, Hawke's Bay,
New Zealand, Shepherd, has deposited at this office a speci-
fication of an invention for an improved machine for raising
water.
No. 3663.—JOHN HICKES, of High Street, Auckland, New
Zealand, Settler, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for an improvement in cross-cut and pit saws,
to be called "Patent Double Saws."
No. 3664.—ROBERT COCKERELL, of Invercargill, New Zea-
land, Agricultural-implement Maker, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention to be called "The
Regulatable Inclined Lock-planes for working Force-pumps."
And I have appointed Wednesday, the 10th day of July next,
at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 25th day of June
next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections
to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be pre-
cluded from urging the same.

be called "The Witness Gold- and Ore-saving Apparatus."
No. 3666.—WILLIAM WEBSTER DALBY, of Auckland, New
Zealand, Manufacturing Chemist, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for "Soapene," a
scouring, cleansing, and disinfecting medium.
No. 3667.—WALTER GREENSHIELDS, of Auckland, New
Zealand, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for hygienic boots and shoes, to be called
"Ventilated Boots or Shoes."
No. 3668.—EDWARD JOHN MARTIN, of Christchurch, Canter-
bury, New Zealand, Well-sinker, has deposited at this office
a specification of an invention for improvements in apparatus
for sinking artesian wells, or for pile-driving, to be called
"Martin's Ball Apparatus for sinking Artesian Wells, or for
Pile-driving."
And I have appointed Thursday, the 11th day of July
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the

Senior Examination of January, 1890, the period of litera-
ture will be the latter half of the Eighteenth Century, and
the special books will be Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice,
and Goldsmith's Vicar of Wakefield.
