IN exercise of the powers vested in me by "The Animals
Protection Act, 1880," and the Acts Acts amending the same,
I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government
of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that cock-
pheasants and Californian quail may be taken or killed
within the South Canterbury District, consisting of the
Counties of Waimate and Mackenzie, and that part of the
Geraldine County lying south of the Opihi River, from the
first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
nine, to the thirtieth day of June, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-nine, both inclusive (subject, never-
theless, to the restrictions in the said Acts mentioned). And
I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such game
within the said district shall be issued on payment of the
sum of twenty shillings each, and that licenses to sell such
game shall be issued on payment of the sum of five pounds
each; and the Chief Postmaster at Timaru and the Post-
master at Waimate are hereby appointed to sign and issue
the said licenses.

I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government
of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that cock-
pheasants may be taken or killed within the Waitaki Dis-
trict, consisting of the County of Waitaki, from the first day
of May to the thirtieth day of June, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-nine, both inclusive; and that hares
may be taken or killed within the said district from the
eighteenth day of April to the thirty-first day of July, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, both inclusive
(subject nevertheless to the restrictions in the said Acts
mentioned). And I do further notify that licenses to take
or kill such game within the said district shall be issued
on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each, and that
licenses to sell such game shall be issued on payment of
the sum of five pounds each; and the Chief Postmaster at
Oamaru is hereby appointed to sign and issue the said
licenses.

I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government
of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that hares and
Californian quail may be taken or killed within the Otago
District—being all that area in the Provincial District of

Otago bounded on the east and south by the ocean from
Shag Point to the mouth of the Mataura River; on the west,
south-west, and south by the Mataura River and the Counties
of Southland and Wallace; on the north-west by the ocean;
and on the north, north-west, and north-east by the Counties
of Westland and Waitaki: excepting therefrom the County
of Lake—from the first day of May, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-nine, to the thirty-first day of July, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, both inclusive (sub-
ject nevertheless to the restrictions in the said Acts men-
tioned). And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill
such game within the said district shall be issued on pay-
ment of the sum of twenty shillings each, and that licenses
to sell such game shall be issued on payment of the sum of
five pounds each; and the Chief Postmaster at Dunedin is
hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses.

Coursing Season for Hares, License Fee, &c., Southiand
District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by "The Animals
Protection Act, 1880," and the Acts amending the same,
I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government
of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that hares
may be taken or killed by coursing only within the South--
land District, consisting of so much of the County of South-
land as lies to the westward of the Mataura River, together
with the Counties of Fiord, Wallace, and Stewart Island,
from the first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-nine, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-nine, both inclusive (subject never-
theless to the restrictions in the said Acts mentioned). And
I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such game
within the said district shall be issued on payment of the
sum of thirty shillings each; and that licenses to sell such
game shall be issued on payment of the sum of five pounds
each; and the Chief Postmaster at Invercargill is hereby
appointed to sign and issue the said licenses.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Adminis-
trator of the Government, this fourth day of
April, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
nine.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Manawatu Road Board,
County of Oroua.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Manawatu Road Board, is published in accordance
with "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

RESULT OF POLL.

It is hereby notified that a poll taken on the 19th March, on
a proposal to borrow £210 for the construction of Stace's
Road, in the Manawatu Road District, resulted as follows:-
Number of ratepayers entitled to vote, 11. Ratepayers
in favour of proposal, 6; against, 2; not voting, 3; majority
in favour, 1. Number of votes that could be exercised, 27.
Votes in favour of proposal, 17; against, 5; not recorded, 4;
informal, 1; majority in favour, 7.

As more than half the number of ratepayers entitled to
vote have recorded more than half the number of votes that
could be exercised in favour of the proposal, I hereby declare
the proposal carried.
