Notification of the Entry into Negotiations for the Purchase
of Native Land in the North Island.

IN pursuance of the provisions of " The Government Native
Land Purchases Act, 1877," it is hereby notified that
negotiations on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen for the
purchase or acquisition of the block of Native land in the
North Island which is more particularly described and men-
tioned in the Schedule hereto have been entered into.

SCHEDULE.

AWARUA AND MOTUKAWA.

ALL that block of land in the Provincial District of Welling-
ton containing by admeasurement 288,300 acres, more or
less, and situate in the Moawhango, Maungakaretu, Ohine-
wairua, Pukeokahu, Tiriraukawa, Hautapu, Ruahine, and
Umutoi Survey Districts. Bounded towards the north by
the Rangipo-Waiu, Orouamatua, and Mangaohane Blocks to
the summit of the Ruahine Range which forms the eastern
boundary of the Provincial District of Wellington; towards
the east by the summit of said range southward to a point
distant about 124 chains on a line bearing 196° 36′ from
Trig. Station 83 at Te Atua Mahuru; thence along said line
until it again intersects the dividing range; thence again
by the said range to Trig. Station 5; thence by lines to Trig.
Stations 4, 3, 2, and 1; thence towards the south by the
Mangoira-Ruahine, Otamakapua, and Otairi Blocks; and
towards the west by the Te Kapua and Ngaurukehu Blocks
and by the Hautapu Stream.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this fifteenth day of March, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-nine.

mentioned). And I do further notify that licenses to take or
kill such game within the said district shall be issued on
payment of the sum of twenty shillings each, and that
licenses to sell such game shall be issued on payment of the
sum of five pounds each; and the Chief Postmaster at Wel-
lington, and the Postmasters at Masterton and Featherston,
are hereby appointed to issue and sign the said licenses.

As witness the hand of his Excellency the Governor,
this sixteenth day of March, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-nine.

Shooting Season for Imported Game, License Fee, &c.,
North Canterbury District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by "The Animals
Protection Act, 1880," and the Acts amending the same,
I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that hares may be
taken or killed within the North Canterbury District, con-
sisting of the Counties of Cheviot, Ashley, Akaroa, and
Selwyn, from the thirtieth day of March, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-nine, to the thirty-first day of July, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, both inclusive, sub-
ject nevertheless to the restrictions in the said Acts men-
tioned; and that cock-pheasants and quail may be taken
or killed in the said district from the first day of May, one
thousand cight hundred and eighty-nine, to the thirtieth day
of June, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, both
inclusive, also subject to the restrictions in the said Acts
mentioned. And I do further notify that licenses to take or
kill such game within the said district shall be issued on
payment of the sum of twenty shillings each, and that
licenses to sell such game shall be issued on payment of the
sum of five pounds each; and the Chief Postmaster at
Christchurch is hereby appointed to issue and sign the said
licenses.

Rural Lands in the Wellington Land District open for
Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the third section of "The Land
Act Amendment Act, 1887" (hereinafter termed "the said
Act"), I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report
of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section
is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enume-
rated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selec-
tion, after the lapse of a period of forty-five days from the
date of the first public notification hereof, in the manner
and upon the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at
the price per acre respectively set opposite such land in the
said Schedule.

Protection Act, 1880," and the Acts amending the same,
I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that native game,
excepting tuis, white heron, and crested grebe, may be taken
or killed within the said colony, except in the Borough of
Greymouth, in the Wairau lagoons in the County of Marl-
borough, and on the Lyell Creek, County of Kaikoura, be-
tween Lyell Bridge and the sea, from the eighteenth day of
April, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, to the
thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-nine, both days inclusive.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this sixteenth day of March, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-nine.

therein, from the eighteenth day of April, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-nine, to the thirty-first day of July, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, both inclusive
