REMARKS.

December.—Fine weather generally, but strong winds from W. and N.W.; showery at commencement, during the middle, and at end of the month, but small total rainfall, the maximum recorded on 13th, ·670in.; distant thunder and lightning on 9th. Maximum temperature in shade, 71; minimum, 44.3. Mean temperature of dewpoint, 50.5; mean humidity, 78. Earthquake on 8th, at 7.10 a.m., slight.

January.—Fine up to 8th, except rain on night of 5th, but very strong N.W. wind; showery during middle of month, but moderate wind; latter part very fine until 30th, when heavy rain fell, ·75in., the maximum for month, recorded on 31st; strong N.W. wind on 28th, 29th, and 30th; wind prevailed from N.W.; lightning on nights of 6th, 7th, and 17th. Maximum temperature in shade, 80; minimum, 52. Mean temperature of dewpoint, 55.6; mean humidity, 77.

February.—Fine early part of month, with light southerly wind; showery on 10th and two following days; then fine again until night of 19th, when it rained; ·50in. recorded on 20th, the maximum for month; fine remainder of month; prevailing N.W. wind and very strong at times; during latter half seven days of strong N.W. wind. Maximum temperature in shade, 79; minimum, 48. Mean temperature of dewpoint, 53.8; mean humidity, 72.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Registrar of Friendly
Societies has, pursuant to section 10 of “The
Friendly Societies Act, 1882,” by writing under his hand dated this 12th day of March, 1889, cancelled the registry of the Blue Ribbon Gospel Army, Register No. 235, held at Christchurch, on the ground that the said society has ceased to exist.
