HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased, in pur-
suance of the powers conferred upon him by section
41 of "The Harbours Act, 1878," and of all other powers
enabling him in that behalf, to appoint
JOE REGINALD SOMERVILLE
to be a Member of the Wanganui Harbour and River Conser-
vators' Board, the ratepayers of the County of Wanganui
having, on the second Monday in February ultimo, refused
or neglected to elect the number of members required by the
Second Schedule of "The Harbours Act, 1878," having only
elected one instead of two members.

Altering Ridings.

THE following special order, made by the Inangahua
County Council, is published in accordance with "The
Counties Act, 1886."

Special Order made by the Inangahua County Council.—
Altering the Boundaries of certain Ridings within the
County.
Resolved, That this Council doth, by this special order,
alter the boundaries of the Ridings of Boatman's, Reefton,
Murray, Crushington, and Antonio's; and that the bounda-
ries so altered shall be as follows:-
Boatman's Riding: Bounded on the north by the Buller
County, from Mount Faraday to the Brunner Range; thence
on the east by the Hampden Riding; thence on the south
by a line proceeding due west to the south-east corner of
Section 60, Block X., Reefton Survey District; thence along
the eastern boundary of Section 60 to the south bank of the
Waitahu River; thence along the south bank of the Waitahu
River to its junction with the Inangahua River; thence by
a line westerly to Mount Faraday.
Reefton Riding: Bounded on the north by the Boatman's
Riding, from the watershed between the Little Grey and
Inangahua Rivers to the eastern boundary of Section 60,
Block X., Reefton Survey District; thence along that
boundary to the south-east corner of said section; thence
on the east by a line bearing in a south-westerly direction to
the south-east corner of Section 198, Block XIV., Reefton
Survey District; thence along the west bank of the Inanga-
hua River to a point in the northern boundary of the Crush-
ington Riding; thence from that point on the south by a
line bearing south-westerly to the eastern corner of Section
185, Block XIII., Reefton Survey District; thence along the
southern boundary of said section to the western corner;
thence by a line due west to the watershed between the
Little Grey and Inangahua Rivers; and thence on the west
by said watershed to the point of commencement.
Murray Riding: Bounded on the north by Boatman's
Riding; on the east by Hampden Riding; on the south by
the watershed between the Big River, Little Grey, and Ina-
ngahua Rivers; thence along the watershed between Murray Creek
and Inangahua River to Trig. Station MM, in the Reefton
Survey District; thence by a line bearing in a south-westerly
direction to the west bank of the Inangahua River; thence
on the west by the eastern boundary of the Reefton Riding.
Crushington Riding: Bounded on the north by the Reefton
and Murray Ridings; on the east by Hampden Riding to
Mount Haast; thence on the south by the boundary between
the watershed between the Big River, Little Grey, and Ina-
ngahua Rivers.
Antonio's Riding: Bounded on the north by Boatman's
Riding; on the east by Reefton and Crushington Ridings;
on the south by the Grey County; and on the west by the
Grey County.
This special order to take effect from the date on which it
shall be gazetted.
I hereby certify that the resolution making the foregoing
special order was adopted by the Inangahua County Council,
at a special meeting held on the 24th day of January, 1889,
and was confirmed at a special meeting held on the 1st day
of March, 1889, and that the required public notification was
given.

trict, County of Oroua.

Road Board, is published in accordance with "The
Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

RESULT OF POLL.
THE following is the result of the poll taken on the 4th day
of March, 1889, on proposals to borrow £4,000 for road-
making in No. 5 Ward:-
Ratepayers on the roll, 114; representing 149 votes.
Ratepayers voting for the proposals, 78; recording 107 votes.
As the number of ratepayers that voted for the proposals
and the number of votes recorded are more than the half, as
required by the Act, I hereby declare the proposals carried.

Westport.

Mayor of Westport, are published in accordance with
"The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886."

SIR,-I have the honour to inform you that a poll of the
burgesses was taken on the 5th day of March, 1889, on a pro-
posal of the Westport Borough Council, agreed to on the
16th day of January last, that the Council of the Borough of
Westport propose to extend the Corporation Gasworks, and
for this purpose to raise money by way of special loan for a
term of not more than seventeen years.
The sum proposed to be borrowed for such purpose is
£1,000. The security which it is proposed to pledge, to pro-
vide for the interest and sinking fund of such loan, consists
of a special rate of one penny in the pound on the total rate-
able value of the borough property, and by a second charge
on the gasworks and the profits therefrom.
The poll resulted as follows: Number of burgesses who
polled for the proposal, 219; number of votes exercised by
those burgesses in favour of the proposal, 326; number of
burgesses who voted against the proposal, 15; number of
votes exercised by those burgesses against the proposal, 18;
number of burgesses abstaining from voting, 141; number of
votes exercisable by those burgesses abstaining from voting,
160. The number of burgesses on the roll is 375; the num-
ber of votes to which these burgesses are entitled is 504.
As the number of burgesses who voted for the proposal
exceeds one-half of the number of burgesses on the roll, and
the votes exercised by those burgesses so voting exceeds one-
half of the number of votes which can be exercised by the
