NOTICE is hereby given that the black buoy at the entrance
to the cutting in Light's Passage will be removed at once,
and will not be replaced; also that a black buoy will, at the
same time, be placed on the edge of the cutting opposite
No. 7 Light Beacon.

TABLE CAPE LIGHT, NORTH-WEST COAST OF TASMANIA.
WITH reference to the Notice No. 327, of the 15th October
last, it is hereby notified, in order to define the difference
between the true and faint light, that, on and after the 18th
instant, a red ray will be exhibited at either extremity of the
bright arc. Mariners are warned not to pass inshore of these,
which are intended to clear the Blackman's Reef to the east-
ward and the reef off Rocky Cape to the westward.

Civil Service Senior Examination.

IN pursuance of regulations under "The Civil Service
Reform Act, 1886," notice is hereby given that for the
Senior Examination of January, 1890, the period of litera-
ture will be the latter half of the Eighteenth Century, and
the special books will be Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice,
and Goldsmith's Vicar of Wakefield.

Reward of £10,000 offered for the Discovery of New Gold
fields.—Amended Conditions.

REWARDS of £10,000 are offered for the discovery of new
goldfields, upon the amended conditions set forth
hereunder.

AMENDED CONDITIONS.

  1. The maximum sum offered as a reward for any proved
    discovery of a new goldfield in accordance with these condi-
    tions is £5,000 for the North Island, and £5,000 for the
    Middle Island.
  2. The newly-discovered goldfield must be situated not
    less than forty miles from any existing goldfield or any
    existing workings.
  3. No reward shall be payable until 50,000 ounces of gold
    have been produced from the newly-discovered goldfield
    within three years from the date of its being registered.
  4. Any person discovering new gold-workings, and being
    desirous of obtaining the reward, shall immediately forward
    a written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to
    the Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within
    which such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or
    Resident Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an
    application for reward.
  5. No prospecting will be allowed upon Native land with-
    out a prospecting license authorising the person therein
    named, with the consent of the owner of the land, to prospect,
    in accordance with the provisions of sections one hundred
    and thirty-five to one hundred and thirty-seven of "The
    Mining Act, 1886," inclusive.
    No reward shall be paid for any discovery that may be
    made upon Native land without the consent of the Native
    owners and the approval of the Minister of Mines.

Notice to Imprestees under "The Public Revenues Act, 1878."

EVERY officer holding advances of public money is hereby
required to pay to the Public Account at the nearest
branch of the Bank of New Zealand, the unexpended balance
in his hand on or before Saturday, the 30th March proximo,
and forthwith to transmit to the Treasury at Wellington the
bank receipt for such repayment, together with an account of
his expenditure to the same date, as required by clause 4 of
the Treasury Regulations.
As respects disbursements which officers may require to
make during the week following the close of the financial
year, requisitions for the amount required are to be made in
such time as to enable them to reach Wellington not later
than the 20th March, so that the requisite funds may be
placed at the disposal of the officer on the 1st April.
