Reward of £10,000 offered for the Discovery of New Gold
fields.-Amended Conditions.

Wellington, 30th April, 1888.
REWARDS of £10,000 are offered for the discovery of new
goldfields, upon the amended conditions set forth
hereunder.

AMENDED CONDITIONS.

  1. The maximum sum offered as a reward for any proved
    discovery of a new goldfield in accordance with these condi-
    tions is £5,000 for the North Island, and £5,000 for the
    Middle Island.

  2. The newly-discovered goldfield must be situated not
    less than forty miles from any existing goldfield or any
    existing workings.

  3. No reward shall be payable until 50,000 ounces of gold
    have been produced from the newly-discovered goldfield
    within three years from the date of its being registered.

  4. Any person discovering new gold-workings, and being
    desirous of obtaining the reward, shall immediately forward
    a written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to
    the Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within
    which such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or
    Resident Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an
    application for reward.

  5. No prospecting will be allowed upon Native land with-
    out a prospecting license authorising the person therein
    named, with the consent of the owner of the land, to prospect,
    in accordance with the provisions of sections one hundred
    and thirty-five to one hundred and thirty-seven of "The
    Mining Act, 1886," inclusive.

No reward shall be paid for any discovery that may be
made upon Native land without the consent of the Native
owners and the approval of the Minister of Mines,

Notification of Vacancy of Seat in the House of Repre-
sentatives for the Electoral District of Nelson.

IN compliance with the provisions of the sixty-first section
of "The Regulation of Elections Act, 1881," I hereby
notify that the seat in the House of Representatives for the
Electoral District of Nelson became vacant by reason of the
death, on the 11th instant, of
HENRY AUGUSTUS LEVESTAM, Esq.,
late Member for the said district, and that the said seat is
now vacant by reason of such death.

Notice of Hearing of Applications for Patents.

NO. 3545.-JOB OSBORNE, of Doyleston, Canterbury,
New Zealand, Farmer, has deposited at this office
a specification of an invention for a cam to be attached to
well-driving apparatus for shallow or deep wells, for the
purpose of raising and releasing the monkey or rods.

No. 3546.-WILLIAM SYDNEY SMITH, Of Wellington, New
Zealand, Clerk, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for a grating, to be called "Smith's Patent
Grating."

No. 3547.-DAVID ROBERTSON, of Wellington, New Zea-
land, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of
an invention to be called "Robertson's Improved Flax-
stripper."

No. 3548.-THOMAS MOORE BRYANT, of Auckland, New
Zealand, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for a metal holdfast clip or staple, to be called
"The Universal Barbed-metal Clip."

No. 3549.-AMOS JAMES DAVIDSON and ROBERT CRISPIN
HOOPER, of Auckland, New Zealand, have deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for cleansing iron-sand
by magnetism, to be called "Davidson and Hooper's Mag-
netic-cleanser of Iron-sand."

No. 3550.-JOHN CRAIG MCKERROW, of Hawkestone
Street, Wellington, New Zealand, Land Agent, has deposited
at this office a specification of an invention to be called
"McKerrow's Deodoriser."

And I have appointed Thursday, the 30th day of May next,
at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said
applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 15th day of May
next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections
