Owl protected under Animals Protection Acts.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by "The Animals Protection Act, 1880," and the Acts amending the same, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare that, from and after the first day of December, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight, the bird known as the ruru or koukou by the Maoris, and as the night-jar or morepork by the colonists (Athene nova zelandiæ), shall come within the operation of the said Act as fully and as effectually as if it had been included in the Fourth Schedule to the said first-mentioned Act.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-sixth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight.
