Orders for Payment of Public Moneys to Agents to be stamped.
The Treasury,
Wellington, 15th October, 1888.
THE Colonial Treasurer directs it to be notified for general information that orders for the payment of moneys to agents by cheque or otherwise are subject to a stamp duty of one penny under the provisions of “The Stamp Act, 1882;” and all public officers concerned in the payment of public moneys are hereby enjoined, on presentation of such orders and before payment, to see that they are duly stamped as required by law, unless where specially exempt.

Property-tax.—“Property Assessment Act, 1885,” and its Amendments.

IN accordance with the above Acts, public notice is hereby given that the thirtieth day of November next is the time, and my office, Government Buildings, Wellington, is the place, at which all persons in the colony are required to furnish statements of all real and personal property belonging to them in accordance with the said Acts.

N.B.—Forms of statement will be delivered by Assessors as far as practicable, but, as the duty of procuring such forms is cast upon the public, no person is excused from neglecting to provide himself therewith. All persons, whether liable to taxation or not, are required to furnish statements.
Forms may be obtained from the Local Assessor, or at any Money Order Post Office.

NO. 3359.—STEWART CLIDSDALE MITCHELL and WALTER WHITELAW MITCHELL, trading together under the name or style of “Mitchell Brothers,” at No. 572, Lygon Street, Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria, Modellers, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved construction of panelled ceilings, cornices, and facings for walls.
No. 3360.—WILLIAM ARTHUR HILLS, of Sydney, New South Wales, Mineralogist, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved process of converting certain metals and metallic ores, oxides, and carbonates, and the sulphides of cobalt and manganese, into metallic sulphates, and apparatus therefor.
No. 3361.—FREDERICK PURBRICK, of Shirley Grove, East St. Kilda, near Melbourne, Victoria, Architect and Engineer, and ROBERT HOLDEN STONE, of North Brighton, near Melbourne aforesaid, Civil Engineer, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in means for locking nuts on bolts.
No. 3362.—EDWARD HIPWELL, of New Hibernia Wharf, Southwark, Surrey, England, · Provision Merchant, and BENOIT BERNARD HOFMANN, of the same place, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved enamel or varnish for rendering casks and analogous articles damp-proof, and for other useful purposes.
No. 3363.—MATTHEW CRANSWICK GREENHILL, of No. 8, Romola Road, Tulse Hill, Surrey, England, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in and relating to apparatus for the automatic administration of electricity for medical and other purposes.
No. 3364.—FRANCIS EDWARD MACMAHON, of No. 2, Princes Mansions, Victoria Street, Westminster, Middlesex, England, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in apparatus for delivering measured quantities of liquid.
And I have appointed Friday, the 15th day of March next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 28th day of February next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.

No. 3366.—HENRY NICHOLAS HARVEY, of Hayle, Cornwall, England, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in stampers for reducing metalliferous ores or other like substances to a finely-divided state.
No. 3367.—FRANCIS HAYTER, of Burke’s Pass, Canterbury, New Zealand, Sheep-farmer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for a feeder for motherless lambs, styled “The Expeditious Feeder for Motherless Lambs.”
No. 3368.—ALFRED LEMAN, of Auckland, New Zealand, Underclothing Manufacturer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for saving gold, to be called “Leman’s Patent Electric Gold-saving Machine.”
No. 3369.—THOMAS HENRY DAVIDSON, of Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand, Engineer, and GEORGE WILLIAM GOUGH, of the same place, Civil Engineer, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in machinery for flax-dressing, to be known as “The Premier Flax-dresser.”
No. 3370.—JOHN BURNS, of Sydenham, Canterbury, New Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improvement in pumps to prevent the water being drawn away from the pump through defective valves or other causes, to be called “Burns’s Pump Air-valve.”
And I have appointed Tuesday, the 19th day of March next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 4th day of March next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.
