THE Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Palmerston North intend to construct waterworks in Fitzherbert, in the Manawatu Road District, for the supply of water to the inhabitants of the Borough of Palmerston North, and a survey has been made and a plan has been prepared showing generally the nature of the works proposed to be executed and the lands required to be taken for the same, together with the names of the owners and occupiers of such lands so far as they can be ascertained; and such plan lies at the office of the said borough, in The Square, Palmerston North; and a copy of such plan has been deposited at the residence of Mr. John Octavius Batchelar, on the southern side of the Manawatu River, below the Fitzherbert Road-bridge, and situate in the said Manawatu Road District, both plan and copy being for inspection by all persons at all reasonable hours. The works include an inlet tower on the Tiritea Stream, near the north-west corner of Section 272, Block IV., Arawaru Survey District; a 7in. underground pipe partly in the roadway fronting Sections 272, 271, and 270, partly in the bed of the Tiritea Stream, and partly in the said Sections 272, 271, and 270 to the dividing-line between Sections 270 and 269, thence along the roadway fronting Section 269 on the one side and 258 on the other side for a distance of about 9 chains, and thence through Section 269, along the road between the said Section 269 and Sections 268, 267, 266, 215, 214, 213, and part of 212 on the one side, and part of Section 288 and Sections 257, 255, 181, 182, 183, and part of Section 184 on the other side, thence through said Section 212 to a service-reservoir thereon, consisting of a concrete tank, roofed with corrugated-galvanised iron, of a capacity of about 300,000 gallons; and also the laying of underground 9in. iron pipe from the said reservoir to the road-line between Sections 212 and 185, thence along the road-line between Sections 211, 210, 207, and 206 on the one side, and part of Section 185 and Sections 186, 209, 208, 204, and 205 on the other side, to the Fitzherbert Road-bridge, along the said bridge into the Borough of Palmerston North; also the construction of a track where necessary along the line of the 7in. pipe aforesaid. The lands to be taken consist of the intended site of the said inlet tower and the pool in which it is intended to be erected, and a roadway round the said pool; also so much of Sections 270 and 271, or either of them, as may, from the nature of the ground, be necessary for the said track; also the part of Section 269 notified on the 19th day of September last; and, lastly, 5 or 6 acres, being part of said Section 212. Bounded towards the east by a straight line running northward from a point along the road-line distant 13½ chains from the corner of Section 213, thence by another straight line 8 chains and 2 chains respectively; towards the north-east by another straight line, 4 chains; towards the north by a straight line parallel with the straight line hereinbefore secondly mentioned 370 links, and by another straight line 11·20 links to the said road-line; and towards the west and south-west by the said road-line, 1560 links: be the said several admeasurements, dimensions, and areas, or any of them, more or less; as the said works and land are delineated in the said plan. The water intended to be taken is so much water of the Tiritea Stream as may pass through filter-bed into the 7in. pipe, but not more than from time to time be required for the purposes aforesaid or incidental thereto.

All objections must be delivered at the Borough Office within forty days from the date of the publication of this notice, viz., the 20th day of October, 1888.
