Rural Lands in the Canterbury District open for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the third section of "The Land Act Amendment Act, 1887" (hereinafter termed "the said Act"), I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection, after the lapse of a period of forty-five days from the date of the first public notification hereof, in the manner and upon the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at the price per acre respectively set opposite such land in the said Schedule.

These lands are situated on the Peninsula, most of them being near the summit of the range, and are rough and stony. Sections 35949 and 35951 are near Mount Herbert, 35952 on the Summit Road, 35953 on Le Bon's Peak, 35954 at Little Akaloa, on the north side of the harbour.

Sections 35859 and 35933, both very light poor land, situated on the coast, about fourteen miles from Rakaia Township; 35860 to 35865, all poor shingly land, situated on the coast, between the Wakanui Creek and mouth of the Ashburton, adjoining Mr. Doak's, Mrs. Gibson's, and Mr. Rickerd's land; 35902, on north side of Ashburton River, adjoining Corbett's land, light shingly land, liable to be flooded; 35934, light stony land, in the forks of the Ashburton River, at the junc-

tion of the Alford Forest and Rakaia-Rangitata Roads. The unsurveyed land, Blocks VII. and XI., Alford, is hilly, poor birch-bush land, between the Forest Reserve, the south branch of Bowyer's Stream, and the freehold land.
