Mining Notice.
NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION OF WATER-RACE.
To the Mining Registrar at Westport, Mining District of
Karamea, and all other persons whom it may concern.
TAKE notice that it is intended to construct a Water-
race and divert water by means of piping of steel from
the Little Granity Creek, commencing at a place situated
on the right-hand branch 7 chains, more or less, above the
point of junction of the right- and left-hand branches of the
said creek, through Crown lands, to a point situated on the
boundary-line of Section 4, Block V., Ngakawau District, 3
chains, more or less, in a south-westerly direction from the
eastern corner of said section, passing through a portion of
said section to a point situated on the boundary-line between
said section and Section 5, 10 chains, more or less, in a
north-westerly direction from above-named north-east corner
of Section 4; from this point passing through a portion of
Section 5, Block V., Ngakawau District, to a point situated
on the western boundary-line of the last-named section 6
chains, more or less, in a north-easterly direction from the
western corner of the said Section No.5. The length of such
race is about three miles, the mean breadth is about 3ft., and
the mean depth is about 3ft. It is proposed to divert twenty
Government-heads of water. Time required for construc-
tion, six months; and the estimated cost about £2,000.

UPPER MAHURANGI ROAD DISTRICT.
IT is hereby notified that, under the provisions of “The
Public Works Act, 1882,” the Upper Mahurangi Road
Board intend to take land for a road, 66ft. wide, through
Lot 11, Parish of Kourawhero.
The works proposed to be constructed are clearing, form-
ing, and metalling.
Plan showing the line of the proposed road lies open for
inspection at the office of the Board, Warkworth.
All persons affected by the proposed road are hereby called
upon and required to set forth in writing any well-grounded
objection to the taking of such land or the execution of such
works, and to send such writing, within forty days from the
first publication of this notice, to the undersigned.

PUBLIC NOTICE UNDER “THE PUBLIC WORKS
ACT, 1882.”
THE Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of
Palmerston North intend to proceed with the erection
of Waterworks at Fitzherbert, in the Manawatu Road Dis-
trict, in the Provincial District of Wellington, for the supply
of water to the inhabitants of the Borough of Palmerston
North; and a survey has been made and a plan has been
prepared showing generally the nature of the works proposed
to be executed, and the lands and waters required to be taken
for the same, together with the names of the owners and
occupiers of such lands so far as they can be ascertained;
and such plan lies at the office of the said borough, in The
Square, Palmerston North; and a copy of such plan has
been deposited at the residence of Mr. John Octavius
Batchelar, on the southern side of the Manawatu River,
below the Fitzherbert Road Bridge, and situate in the said
Manawatu Road District; both plan and copy being for
inspection by all persons at all reasonable hours: and that a
general description of the works proposed to be executed, and
a general description of the lands and water required to be
taken for such purpose, appear in the Schedule hereto.
And the said Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the
Borough of Palmerston North hereby call upon all persons
who will be affected by the carrying out of such proposed
works to set forth in writing any well-grounded objections to
the execution of such works or to the taking of such lands,
and to send such writing to them within forty days from the
first publication of this notice, being the nineteenth day of
September, 1888.
THE SCHEDULE HEREINBEFORE REFERRED TO.
THE erection of an inlet tower on the road-line at or near the
north-western corner or angle of Section 272, Fitzherbert
East, for the purpose of conveying thence the water of the
Tiritea Stream by iron pipes, of a diameter of 7in., placed
below the surface of the road-line running between Sections
272, 271, 270, and 269 on the one hand, and Sections 261,
259, and 258 on the other hand, in a general northerly direc-
tion, to a point about 13 chains distant from the dividing-
line of Sections 269 and 270; and thence below the surface of
a strip of land being part of said Section 269, of the respec-
tive widths 25 links, 100 links, and 25 links, and containing
2 roods and 1 perch; thence below the surface of the afore-
said road-line between other part of Section 269, Sections
268, 267, 266, 215, 214, and 213, and a part of Section 212
respectively, of a length of about 14 chains on the one side,
and part Section 288, Sections 257, 255, 181, 182, 183, and
part Section 184 respectively on the other side; thence
below the surface of a strip of land being part of said Sec-
tion 212, 837 links long and 25 links wide, to a service
reservoir to be constructed on a part of said Section 212, 400
links long and 350 links wide. Such reservoir will consist of
a concrete tank, roofed with corrugated galvanised iron, of a
capacity not less than 300,000 gallons, with waste pipes laid
from its south-east side to return the waste to the Tiritea.
The laying of iron pipes, 9in. in diameter, from the north-
eastern side of the said reservoir, below the surface of a strip
of land being other part of said Section 212, 800 links long
and 50 links wide (occupying with the other portions of
Section 212 already described a total area of 2 acres and 14
