PURSUANT to the provisions of an Act of the General
Assembly of New Zealand, passed in the forty-fourth
year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, and intituled
“The Marriage Act, 1880,” the following name of an Offi-
ciating Minister within the meaning of the said Act is pub-
lished for general information:—

Church of the Province of New Zealand, commonly called
the Church of England.

Notice of Hearing of Applications for Patents.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 21st September, 1888.

NO. 3256.—LLOYD ALONZO KIMBALL, Manager of the
firm of Parke and Lacy, of Sydney, New South Wales,
and San Francisco, California, United States of America,
Machinery Merchants, residing at Sydney aforesaid, has
deposited at this office a specification of an invention for
improvements in certain descriptions of concentrating ma-
chines.

No. 3257.—LLOYD ALONZO KIMBALL, Manager of the
firm of Parke and Lacy, of Sydney, New South Wales, and
San Francisco, California, United States of America, Machi-
nerly Merchants, residing at Sydney aforesaid, has deposited
at this office a specification of an invention for improve-
ments in certain descriptions of concentrating machines.

No. 3258.—ROBERT WOTHERSPOON and EDWARD WILKIN-
SON, both of Melbourne, Victoria, Civil Engineers, have depo-
sited at this office a specification of an invention for an im-
proved street-cleaner.

No. 3259.—PIERRE CHEASEMAN DU BOIS, of Sydney, New
South Wales, Metallurgist, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for improvements in rock-
crushers.

No. 3260.—FREDERICK VALENTINE WATERS, of Welling-
ton, New Zealand, Clerk, has deposited at this office a spe-
cification of an invention to be called “Waters’s Patent
Manifold Shipping Receipt and Boat-note” (being a com-
munication to him from abroad by Messrs. Bacon and Com-
pany, of San Francisco, California, United States of Ame-
rica).

No. 3261.—JOSEPH CLARK, of Nelson, New Zealand, Gas-
fitter, has deposited at this office a specification of an inven-
tion for an improved gas cooking-stove, to be called “Clark’s
Patent.”

And I have appointed Friday, the 15th day of February
next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 31st day of
January next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they
will be precluded from urging the same.

NO. 3262.—RICHARD DOUGLAS MORGAN, of Dunedin,
New Zealand, Civil Engineer, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for an improved time-
candle.

No. 3263.—ANDREW RITCHIE, of Christchurch, New Zea-
land, Draper, and ROBERT JOHN WHYTE, of the same place,
Tinsmith, have deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for a new cover for frying-pans, saucepans, or any
cooking vessel where steam only is required to escape, styled
“The Eureka Cover.”

No. 3264.—HOLMES SAMUEL CHIPMAN, of No. 54, Margaret
Street, Sydney, New South Wales, Merchant, has deposited
at this office a specification of an invention for improvements
in reaping and binding machines (being a communication
from the inventor, Lewis Miller, of Akron, Ohio, United
States of America).

No. 3265.—EDWARD ALEXANDER VON SCHMIDT, of Alameda,
in California, United States of America, has deposited at
this office a specification of an invention for improvements
in dredging machines (being a communication from the in-
ventor, Alexey Waldemar von Schmidt, of San Francisco,
California aforesaid, Engineer).

No. 3266.—ALBERT ERNEST WOODHOUSE, of Amberley,
New Zealand, Farmer, has deposited at this office a specifi-
cation of an invention for a patent feeding-trough, to be
called “Woodhouse’s Patent Sheep-trough.”

No. 3267.—JAMES THOMSON, of the Arahura, Westland,
New Zealand, Contractor, and FRANK EDWARD CLARKE, of
Hokitika, Westland aforesaid, Draughtsman, have deposited
at this office a specification of an invention for composite
iron piles and sheath piles with solid welded point or shoe.

And I have appointed Tuesday, the 19th day of February
next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 4th day of February
next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections
to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be pre-
cluded from urging the same.

New South Wales, Engineer and Mine Manager, has
deposited at this office a specification of an invention for
improvements in the process of treating gold and silver ores
by amalgamation, and in the devices therefor (being a com-
munication from Martin P. Boss, of San Francisco, America,
Milling Engineer).

No. 3269.—THOMAS ALVA EDISON, of Llewellyn Park, in
the County of Essex, New Jersey, United States of America,
Electrician, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for improvements in phonographs and phonograms.

No. 3270.—THOMAS ALVA EDISON, of Llewellyn Park, in
the County of Essex, New Jersey, United States of America,
Electrician, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for improvements in phonogram blanks and phono-
grams, and processes of making the same.

No. 3271.—JOHN MACCLURE, of Invercargill, New Zea-
land, Carpenter, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for a fern vase, to be called “The Maori
Rustic Fern Vase.”

No. 3272.—PATRICK JOHN HENLEY, of Leeston, Canterbury,
New Zealand, Farmer, and DAVID BLYTH, of the same place,
Blacksmith, have deposited at this office a specification of
an invention for the pulverising and subsoiling of the soil by
implements to be attached to any make of plough, to be
called “Henley and Blyth’s Pulverising and Subsoiling
Attachments.”

And I have appointed Wednesday, the 20th day of February
next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 5th day of
February next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they
will be precluded from urging the same.

Notice under Clause 5 of “The Native Land Act, 1888.”

Native Office,
Wellington, 6th September, 1888.

CLAUSE 5 of “The Native Land Act, 1888,” provides
that existing restrictions on alienation may be removed
or declared void by the Governor in Council, on the applica-
tion of a majority in number of the Native owners.

It is hereby notified that any persons making application
under this clause must furnish the following information:—
