Coats, Paisley.” Below the cable or chain is an oblong containing a diagonal band whereon is another cable or chain, on the left of this are the words “Crochet Cotton,” and on the right the word “Grammes,” with a space above for the number. Below all the above named is the picture of a cotton-mill, with the words thereunder “Ferguslie Thread Works.” In each corner of the mark is a miniature representation of the circular cable or chain. The whole mark is surrounded by two rectangular lines, having between them a cable or chain.

[TRANSLATION.]

“THE Crown and Native Lands Rating Act, 1882,” and the Amendment thereof.

To each and every the owner or owners of land described in the substituted valuation-rolls of Native lands supplied to the local bodies, the names of which are set forth in the Schedule hereunder, under the provisions of the above Acts and all other Acts affecting the same or relating thereto.

WHEREAS demand having been made to me, the undersigned Colonial Treasurer of the Colony of New Zealand, in accordance with the provisions of “The Crown and Native Lands Rating Act, 1882,” by or on behalf of the said local bodies, for payment of the rates appearing to be payable under or by virtue of the said rolls for the year ended the 31st March, 1888:

Notice is hereby given to you and each and every of you that rolls of Native lands are now deposited at the offices of the said several local bodies, which said rolls are in the Maori language, and show the rateable value of the Native lands therein mentioned or described.

And you and each and every of you, the owners of the said lands, are hereby required and directed to pay the said rates on or before the 18th August, 1888, such payment to be made by you at the office of the local body in whose district the lands affected are respectively comprised, and as noted in the said Schedule.

Description of Trade Mark No. 3.

The trade mark consists of three bands, each surrounded by a single line; these bands have thereon respectively the words “J. & P. Coats” on the left one, “Grammes Crochet” on the right one, and a cable or chain on the centre one. There is a blank space left before the word “Grammes” for the number.

Description of Trade Mark No. 4.

The trade mark consists of a band running diagonally across the trade mark, having thereon a cable or chain; to the left of this is the word “Grammes,” also on a band with a blank space thereon for the number; above this band are the words “J. & P. Coats,” and below the band the words “Crochet Cotton.” On the right of the cable or chain are the letters “No.” with a space after for the number, and below this another rectangular line having the corners cut off.

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade Marks shall apply.
