No. 3120.—HENRY DUTTON MELHUISH, of Spring Hill, New South Wales, Produce Merchant, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved bag-filler, to be used as an attachment to chaff-cutting and other machines.

No. 3122.—JOHN LANGFORD CRUMPE, of Auckland, New Zealand, Gentleman, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for lattice stays and surgical supports, &c., to be called “The Patent Latticean Stay.”

No. 3123.—ARTHUR GYON PURCHAS, of Auckland, New Zealand, Surgeon, and JOHN EDWARD FRIEND, of the same place, Engineer, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in hydro-carbon motors.

And I have appointed Tuesday, the 11th day of December next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 26th day of November next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.

No. 3126.—JAMES MCCHESENEY, of Marton, New Zealand, Builder, and ARTHUR THOMAS WARNER COBHAM, of the same place, Cabinetmaker, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved sash-balance.

No. 3127.—HENRY JARRAT GILBERD, of Taradale, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, Nurseryman, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved machine for sinking artesian wells and for driving piles.

No. 3128.—LEONARD POZZI, of Christchurch, New Zealand, Gunsmith, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements on Plimpton’s roller skates, to be termed “Pozzi’s Climax.”

Civil Service Senior Examination.

IN pursuance of regulations under “The Civil Service Reform Act, 1886,” notice is hereby given that for the Senior Examination of January, 1889, the period of literature will be the age of Queen Anne, and the special books will be Shakespeare’s Henry IV. and Henry V., and Lamb’s Essays of Elia.

Native Land Court Notices.

Determination of Compensation.

Native Land Court Office,
Wellington, 20th July, 1888.

NOTICE is hereby given that a sitting of the Native Land Court will be held at Greytown, on Tuesday, the 21st day of August, 1888, for the purpose of ascertaining what amount of compensation ought to be paid to the Native owners of the land known as the Eketahuna Native Reserve, in respect of that portion of the said reserve taken under an Order in Council dated the 14th day of January, 1888, for the purpose of the Wellington-Napier Railway; and also for the purpose of ascertaining who are the persons entitled to be paid such compensation, and what land is affected by the said Order in Council.

ALL that piece or parcel of land containing by admeasurement 16 acres 2 roods 30 perches, situate in the Mangaone Survey District, in the Provincial District of Wellington, as the said parcel is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 14774, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington, in the said provincial district, and thereon coloured yellow.

NOTICE is hereby given that it has, under section 81 of “The Native Land Court Act, 1886,” been certified to this Court that there had become owing to the certified Surveyor named in the first column in the Schedule herein the sum set opposite his name in the second column, by the Native owners of the land mentioned in the third column, for a survey of such land made by the said Surveyor.
