enacted, among other things, that the Governor, by Order in
Council notified in the Gazette, may extend the time allowed
for the holding of any election or meeting of the Board,
whether the day may have passed on which the same ought
to have been held or not:
And whereas it is expedient that the neglect to hold such
election as aforesaid should be remedied:
Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, in the name and on
behalf of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, and as his duly-appointed Deputy, in exercise of
the powers conferred upon him by the forty-third section
of the said Act, and by and with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby extend
the time for holding the election of members of the South
Orari River Board to the twenty-second day of August, one
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight; and doth
hereby order and declare that such election shall take place
at the South Orari Assembly Rooms; that William Wills
shall be the Returning Officer to conduct such election; and
that the first meeting of the said Board shall take place at
Breadley’s Hotel, on Thursday, the twenty-third day of
August next, at the hour of half-past seven o’clock post
meridiem; and, lastly, that the provisions of “The Regula-
tion of Local Elections Act, 1876,” so far as applicable, shall
extend to the election to be held hereunder.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-
fourth day of July, 1888.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE DEPUTY-GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in him by “The Public Domains Act, 1881,”
His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
by his Deputy, by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council thereof, doth hereby revoke a certain
Order in Council, dated the twenty-second day of January,
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six, making dele-
gation of certain powers in manner as therein appears; and
doth, with the like advice and consent, by this present order,
delegate, but only with respect to the piece or parcel of land
described in the Schedule hereto, all the powers conferred
by the Act aforesaid, except the powers under or conferred
by sections five and twelve thereof, to the under-mentioned
persons, who shall be known as the South Rakaia Public
Domain Board, namely, —

ARTHUR MAKEIG,
CHARLES ALBERT CREERY HARDY,
JAMES BRUCE,
WESTCOTE MCNAB LYTTLETON,
WILLIAM LAWRENCE ALLAN, and
DAVID GORDON HOLMES
(herein referred to as “the Board”), subject to the stipula-
tions hereinafter contained, that is to say, —

The Board shall meet for the transaction of business on
the first Thursday in each month, at four o’clock p.m., at
the Road Board Office, South Rakaia, or at such other time
or place as may from time to time be fixed by the Board.
The first meeting shall be held on Thursday, the sixth day
of September, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight. -
Special meetings may be convened by the Chairman or
by any two members of the Board, provided that two days’
notice of such meeting be given to each member, specifying
the business to be transacted at such special meeting, and
no other business than that so specified shall be transacted
at such meeting. -
Any three of the said Board shall form a quorum. Any
meeting may be adjourned from time to time. -
The members of the Board shall, at their first meeting,
and thereafter at an annual meeting to be held on the first
Monday in January in every succeeding year thereafter,
elect one of themselves to be Chairman, who may join in the
discussion, and shall have an original as well as a casting
vote. The Chairman shall hold office until the election of
his successor. -
If at any meeting the Chairman is not present at the
time appointed for holding the same, the members present
shall choose some one of their number to be Chairman of
such meeting. -
If, by resignation, death, or incapacity, or otherwise,
the office of Chairman shall be or become vacant, the mem-
bers may at any monthly or special meeting appoint a Chair-
man. -
All questions shall be determined by the majority of
votes of the members of the Board present at a meeting.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that parcel of land in the Township of South Rakaia,
Provincial District of Canterbury, containing 50 acres, more
or less. Bounded south-eastward by Lots Nos. 31 to 36
inclusive; north-westward by Lots Nos. 19 and 20; and
north-eastward and south-westward by road-lines: and
numbered 2442 (in red) on the official map in the Survey
Office, Christchurch.

Rural Lands in the Hawke’s Bay District open for Sale
or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the third section of “The Land
Act Amendment Act, 1887” (hereinafter termed “the said
Act”), I, James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, in the
name and on behalf of His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of
the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is
provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated
in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection,
after the lapse of a period of forty-five days from the date of
the first public notification hereof, in the manner and upon
the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at the price
per acre respectively set opposite such land in the said
Schedule.

rather broken; would grow good grass. Timber: Maire,
rimu, rata, and black birch all along the banks of the Manga-
tewai-iti Stream.

Access to the above land is given by a good road from the
village and railway-station of Matamau, distant about 2½ to
3 miles.

This land is about 10 miles from Ormond and 23 miles
from Gisborne; coach-road more than half the distance, the
rest a good horse-track; the surface is broken, but with flats
suitable for homestead and agricultural purposes; soil good.

Deputy as aforesaid, this twenty-first day of July,
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight.
